Question

Thanks Rick! I’ve got a question and I probably know the answer. I’ve been actively watching/attending Miss. State baseball for 40+ years. I/we fans have a vested interest via money spent travel, Bulldog club and tickets. You are not suppose to show favoritism as professional journalist. Therefore to you it’s just a game. You also have been covering sports for a long time.

Do you ever get sick of covering games? Does thrill of victory and agony defeat ever dim?

No. Never. Love it. Every game is different. Every story. It happens right in front of you. Love the passion.

The team this year, as in many years past, was definitely talented enough to win this tournament. Unfortunately we just did not have that hot player or timely set of hits or a lights out pitcher that is usually takes to win these tournaments. Last year that is what was happened for the tourney run, but this year we were just steadily grinding in this series. No one was bad or choked or was a goat. Just no one was Al Weis, Mickey Lolich or Gene Tenace.

Notes for the younger folks:

Al Weis:
Career .219 hitter averaged .7 HR a year Bats .455 with a HR in the 1969 World Series for the Mets

Gene Tenace
Career .241 Hitter averaged 14 HRs a year Hits 4 HRs (3 in one game) and bats .348 in the 1972 World Series for the A's

Mickey Lolich
Career .532 winning percentage and a 3.44 ERA goes 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA in the 1968 World Series for Detroit.

Warren Morris. Never hit a home run in his career, hits a walkoff grand slam in Obama.
