I'm normally just a lurker but I feel compelled to share my humble thoughts.

First, most fans have no clue how difficult it is to play cornerback at this level of football. In my opinion, the cornerbacks in the NFL are the finest athletes on the planet. For this reason, I cringe every time I see Sanchez get called out. That dude is a baller. ALL good cornerbacks get burned and playing CB in Mike Stoops' defense is not easy. If he gets injured, we will find out how good he really is. The other thing is that it may look like the CB is getting burned when in reality he is not. Happens all the time in cover 2. I bet most fans don't know a CBs responsibility in cover 2 and tight camera views on a TV broadcast don't show the whole shell anyway.

Our athletes are not professionals. I can tell you from experience that playing college football is not fun. It's a grind. You watch film (I loved this part), go to class, practice, then you have to do your homework while probably recovering from a difficult practice. I can remember being too uncomfortable to sit and do homework after practice. These guys are giving more than you can imagine to entertain us and to get an education. The punishment they are absorbing will change their lives forever and I'm sure it's much worse at this level. No exaggeration. They deserve our respect.

Finally, I get that fans want to criticize the coaches and that's fine. The results speak for themselves. However, I cringe when I see Message Board X and O Genius from his junior high football days tell us what coaches, who have dedicated their whole lives to the profession, should have done. Again, I'm not saying they shouldn't be criticized but stick to the results unless you know what you are talking about.

I agree, I think he is great. It's funny everyone else sees it but some of the Sooner fans. He has NFL talent.

He intercepted six passes last year, also recording 43 tackles and eight pass breakups. While his style of play will cause him to occasionally get burned, Sanchez has proven to be an effective ball hawk for the Sooners, a style that could prove even more effective in his junior season if Oklahoma's pass rush plays up to its potential.

Again you guys only want to hear your opinions lol. For the record 83 they bring up Sanchez constantly, just look at the topics on the first page. If they don't want other opinions, message boards is not a good place to be

Lol@ destroyed. I actually giggled. Mike u think he is great, maybe even elite. I think he is above average but not elite status. He is a ball hawk and makes big plays. At the same time he has struggled at times(picked on even) and he needs to get bigger and struggles in tackling. I think that's a pretty dang fair assessment

This is just sad...sorry coach. Great post...as the matter of fact one of the best I have read in a while. I hate to say it but the board has become unreadable anymore. Do you post somewhere else?...would like to read to see some of your other posts?

Yankees, this post is fact, you post your opinion many many times, now go back up your stance, like Soonerfastnloud did here. And yes in a debate about Sooner football, and especially this topic you will get destroyed. Go get your facts to support your opinion. Also I don't use elite with College football players seems to be a made up word you use.

On a day in which NFL scouts are salivating over the potential one-on-one matchup between projected top 10 picksVernon Hargreaves III from Florida and Mississippi wideout Laquon Treadwell, it was appropriate that defensive backs stole the show in the key Big 12 battle in Norman between No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 23 West Virginia.

It was eventually the hometown Sooners who prevailed 44-24 in a thoroughly entertaining game that featured lots of big plays and momentum changes.

NFL scouts evaluating the game were kept busy with telling performances from West Virginia safety Karl Joseph and Oklahoma cornerback Zack Sanchez, each of whom entered the day ranked fourth and sixth among their respective position groups for the 2016 draft.

The explosive 5-foot-11, 197 pound Joseph made the splashiest plays Saturday, highlighted by a jarring (but clean) hit and his NCAA-leading fifth interception of the year.

Joseph, a senior and reigning First Team All-Big 12 pick, is well-known in the scouting community for his playmaking ability. The fourth quarter interception of Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield was the 18th turnover (nine interceptions, eight forced fumbles, one fumble recovery) he's been apart over his 41 career starts for the Mountaineers.

Joseph sports a compact frame and shows little regard for his own welfare, exploding into ball-carriers. He showed fluidity in coverage when dropping down from his traditional strong safety role to cover Oklahoma's slot receivers one on one and an understanding of route concepts, turning around to steal Mayfield's pass in the fourth quarter.

Well, that was a nice read, but the Joseph's hit on Westbrook was helmet to helmet. The Big12 admitted it.

It’s no secret that student athletes maintain hectic, borderline insane schedules during the school year but It’s all part of the game and it should be FUN.

Thanks rise for giving us all a perspective that would be more associated with the reality of it all instead of the pie in the sky crap we read here all too often.

As our friend Sunburnt Indian would say..."man speak with wisdom and truth"...of course SBI would get cooler with it in his own inimitable fashion. :cool:
