interesting point on The Lake regarding the new ESPN/CBS contracts that I hadn't thought of. It seems that, due to the economic meltdown of the last several months, the networks think they might have overextended themselves over the long run. Now, I seem to recall a lot of people speculating at the time of the announcements that the SEC might have made a mistake to lock itself in to contracts that seem lucrative now but might be worth substantially less than what other conferences are getting in 8-10 years.
It appears that the ink dried on those contracts just in time. Most of us expect the economy to rebound eventually, but if we were trying to negotiate now you have to think we would get a lot less than we did and I can't see any of the other BCS conferences who are due to renegotiate their contracts getting near what we did anytime soon.
