The anti PM threads were absurd then and even more now. He is such a glue guy. And CM--what a luxury to have two such players.

Anyway deserves kudos because team has been better when he's been in.
He is part of this new lineup that starts. He needs to stay in there.

I have not watched the game yet but based on stats this game...4 points, 1 assist, 2 turnovers, 1 steal. He did have 5 rebounds which is very good. Of course, Stats dont tell the entire story but.........

I feel like Mulcahy gets the same treatment that Ben Simmons gets in the NBA. People see a box score and Simmons has 8 points 9 rebounds, and and 7 assists, and they don't think much of him. Then he ends up on the all star team and all NBA third team and people wonder how. Sixers fans constantly call him overrated. It's ridiculous. Watch these guys play. They are in control. They do a ton out there that isn't counted in the stats. They hold everything together.

If you are judging Mulcahy‘s performance each game based on stats, you are missing a lot of what he brings to the game.

Watching him cut to the basket both with and without the ball is a thing of beauty .... sometimes he starts driving and I say “what are you doing!!” And half a second later it’s a pass to a wide open 3, or a dump in to Myles for a slammajamma ... just amazing court vision

He was huge in yesterday’s game. The stat line is meaningless in terms of the way he contributed most. Michigan State crushed us on the boards the first game. MJ can’t clear the glass himself and RHJ is undersized for a 4. Against a good rebounding team, it’s become almost a necessity to have either Paul or Caleb or both on the floor with them. The other guards just don’t play big enough to defend bigger wing players penetrating in the paint with the slower pace halfcourt style.

People forget that his tough play and motor during the final 5 or 10 minutes of the Penn State game keyed the Rutgers comeback . Even though they lost , they've played well ever since.

PM has been really stepping up and showing leadership all through the slump. He has also gotten more active with taking shots. He is going to be huge next year...captain material.

Agree - much more aggressive. That’s what was missing before.
The main thing is he is not playing point guard and the ball is not stopping in his hands and he is getting open looks he still needs to shoot those he still hesitates and does not shoot them all but his help defense is invaluable and his size down low also helps as he was guarding a much bigger guy for a while and they could only get it in to him once for a hoop

Good point that he's not playing point guard so the ball is not stopping in his hands.

Yep. Changed the whole team attitude seeing that fight. It was not talk but action.

Perhaps a comparison to the ryan hart I'm back second half at uconn in turning around a season. If Indiana and MSU were L's the season would be in some real trouble and the turn happened second half PSU.

Coaches don't seem to have engineered it at PSU BUT deserve absolute kudos for recognizing the different line up effect and going with it. Adding the glue guys and giving the tema back to GEO has been transformational.

My only knock is that he seems to frequently struggle inbounding the ball in half court sets. Seems to always be close to 5 second turnover. Love the kid though

him and Geo are benefiting from playing more zone on D. Another improvement is the willingness to shoot open 3s. That really opened up the court for everyone else.

He showed some good hands on the defensive end too vs MSU. I wouldn’t even call them steals. They were all out strips. Then again, the entire team seemed to have fast hands Thursday night.

especially when he starts
they come out all fired up.
Also
He is not allowed to sell his RU shirt either and he did not complain about modern day slavery.

The best move Pikiell made was puttung the ball back in Geo's hands the majority of the time and take it out of the excessive dribblers hands.

He’s also far better defensively than he’s given credit for.

He’s also one of our better finishers on the fast break.

He has games where he's exactly what we need (Thursday's was one, IMO) and others where he is a black hole on offense, and others where he's too ambitious with his passes. And some where he's just fine. As he matures, he'll be more purposeful with the ball and in the meantime, up to Pike to understand when he's effective and adjust his minutes accordingly. He does a lot of good things for the team usually.

This excessive hype is just as bad as his excessive dribbling in circles.

Pump the brakes. He is playing better, the team is playing better but all this hype is excessive.

In addition to all the kudos above, Paul has uncanny defensive positioning against an opposing team’s bigs. He hangs in there and is not intimidated when bodying up to their center during a defensive switch, and wins that battle more than you would expect.
