This is simply shocking and Niele Ivey was named as the new Head Coach. I hope Muffet and her family are all OK. One of the best.

Ivey was definitely the coach in waiting, so that's no surprise.

But McGraw is just one year past a one-point loss in the national championship game and two years removed from winning it all. It would seem strange for her to be pushed out, so I wonder what's going on.

From RebKell:

"WSBT just did an interview with her. She did say that the pandemic was a great time for reflection. She was away from the game and basically didn't miss it. She said that there are other things she wants to do."

Shocked, seems like the luster of the game left her and she plans to move on to other things.
Wouldn't be surprised if she remains close to the game, but not as a Coach .
I've read ( some articles after seeing she retired on this board) that she seemed to be thinking about retiring and I think this time off from the game, right now, gave her the to pull the plug on her coaching career

Great head coach who was able to defeat Uconn and that must have made Geno irate.

I remember years ago when the West Virginia football coach retired. He said something like he had no time for life and couldn’t even do little things with his family like go bowling. And that was pre zillion media outlets and guys moving from school to school like jumping beans.

One of greatest games at the RAC. RU vs ND team with Ruth Riley. CViv played twin towers to hold her in check. Had my 5th/6th grade girls team at the game. RU wins, but ND won rematch and NC that year.

I was in my office - on a Saturday - listening to that game online. The last 30 seconds or so were pure agony; then, of course, ecstasy. That was Notre Dame's only conference season loss, and the only other loss was to UConn in the BET final.

I met Muffet at the 2007 FF - total class act and was pulling for an RU victory.

She seems very at peace with her decision and wish her well. It’s a grind and seems very ready to use her voice differently.

I wonder if we could see more changes in the coaching ranks due to the uncertainty of the virus and the great financial burdens hitting universities as a result. Some are announcing furloughs of staff including athletics. By Muffet stepping down at her high salary, she may have saved someone else’s job at ND....

This is the game that turned me into a Rutgers Women’s Basketball fan. The RAC was crazy that day. TSB was a game saver.

Dana Boonen (sp?) was the other center that started along with TSB.
I also remember another game, CVS sends Dana into the game but when she pulled off her warmup she discovered she had a t shirt on not her uniform shirt and had to retrieve uniform shirt from the locker room

Yep ND is still pulling them in, without Muffet.
But Rutgers hasn't done too shabby itself
Diamond Johnson (No. 6), post Sakima Walker (No. 21), forward Chyna Cornwell (No. 48) and guard Elizabeth Martino (No. 53) committed to play for RU
Let's not forget : it seems Vivian still has some recruiting chops .

sellouts at the RAC won't happen anymore either. Also RU had a level of respect and played a tough schedule, unfortunately those days are long gone. It was an incredible game, atmosphere and crowd and one of the biggest wins in CVS at RU
