The last three Mr. Kentucky Basketball have come to UK. The kid is heading to Belmont. Curious if we'd go after him at all? Not just because of his family name or in-state status, but because his highlights make him look like a great ballplayer. Would some in-state recruiting bring back solid 4-year players (ex, D. Hawkins and D. Willis)?

Off topic, but is the Langhi kid that put up some big numbers Dan’s boy? Any idea where he’s going?

I've said this in other threads, but as far as I'm concerned the only reason to give preference to Kentucky players is if you can get them at a discount over equivalent talent. From my understanding we offered Jasper Johnson the most money in order to keep him from going to UNC. And I don't think we got a discount on Moreno or Noah either. What the hell... at most you should match their best offer.

His status w/ Belmont is now TBD due to their coach leaving for Kansas St. Jake will be a helluva lot better player in time than Williams, Noah, or any other body that is occupying space on the bench.

Probably unpopular opinion but I think UK should always offer the KY Mr Basketball a scholarship from a tradition standpoint, whether we seriously go after them or not is a whole other thing entirely. But with expanded rosters with 15 spots, somebody has to fill 12-15 who never sees the floor and no talented player is going to do that UNLESS it's at their dream school, the NIL is too good to not take that spot, or no other team wants them. And if you are using players from that deep on the bench in real rotational minutes something is catastrophically wrong with the team already. I think it's easier to get Kentucky born players to fill those spots than others. A little higher status than walk ons, with a punchers chance of developing and making it into the lineup as an upperclassman. Most KY Mr Basketball athletes won't take that spot, and that's fine, they can go to Murray or Eastern or solid mid-majors and be non power conference studs. But I think you have to offer them but with clear discussion about what their actual role will be.

Im fine offering him a scholarship I think he can be an awesome player by the time he is a senior. The thing about it in todays game he is probably better suited going to belmont and playing and coming to kentucky as a junior or senior
