We moved up to 18 in this weeks poll.

Not sure if we are eligible to host first round games or not but if we can win out, we are sure to be in the Top 16.

Also surprised tha Stanford dropped to 19. Thought the brand name would keep them higher. And Texas after peaking at #3 earlier this year drops out of Top 25.

wow, that's nice, it means that we're getting some respect. beating Maryland would certainly reinforce that!

A pleasant surprise, for once.

Win out and get a top 4 seed, yes. Even a close loss to Maryland might be enough.

Good to see Stanford and Texas drop. Time to move up on merit, not name.

So sad

Respected everywhere except on their own campus.

So here's the usual breakdown:

Top 5: 1. South Carolina (same as last week, 26 1st place votes, same as last week), 2. Connecticut (same, 8 votes, same), 3. Baylor (same), 4. Notre Dame (same), 5. Maryland (same).

It will be interesting to see what happens if UConn loses a close game to South Carolina. I don't think a lot of people believe in Baylor.

Big Ten: 5. Maryland (same), 14. Iowa (up 2), 22. Nebraska (down 3), also receiving votes: none.

Both the Maryland-RU game and the Nebraska-Iowa game this week will be pretty important.

Other RU opponents: 6. Tennessee (same), 17. North Carolina (down 4), also receiving votes: LSU (34th, down 3 spots, 8 points, same as last week)

The Tar Heels really got nailed for the Syracuse loss, and they have Florida State this week, which they kind of need to win to maintain a chance at a good seed. I'm kind of surprised LSU isn't getting more love.

BTW, Texas is sitting in 27th, just 10 points out of the 25th spot, which is better than they should have expected.

I'd be willing to bet that Texas fully expected to remain in the rankings this week because, well, just because they're TEXAS!

But it is nice to see voters paying somewhat more attention now.

I would actually doubt that. Texas Women's Basketball wasn't "all that" for quite a few years and I don't really think they are deluded about what has happened since the injury. Now, in some other sports, UT might well feel entitled, but I don't think that is the case in WBB.

"Disclosure" - do root for Texas in WBB and Softball particularly when it doesn't conflict with deeper fandom.

It would appear that we're about to see #s 1 and 2 flip next week, if things continue as they are at the moment.

Mom: TV announcers reported the flip as if it were current fact. If it were a close game, maybe wiggle room. but a blowout ... expect the expected.
