Without looking, guess who led Rutgers in minutes played?

Issa Thiam with 34 minutes.

Pikiell isn't kidding. If you play strong defense, you'll get minutes... and Thiam's defense yesterday was pretty darn good. Offensively, he missed a three-pointer. The only shot he took all game.

I am honored to be a Heisman Winner.

No surprise like you said.

One of the biggest off season switches is getting Thiam to tighten up hi release. If he does, watch out next year. I see a 9-11 placement. And maybe more.

His length, mobility & hustle allow him to challenge shots & passing angles. He also helped out on the boards and kept his man in front of him (notably on the last possession).

I don't mind if he's quiet on the offensive end if he's excelling in the other phases. He earned those minutes.

Surprising

But to me, it was the free throw shooting.

11-13

If we shoot our normal percentage, we miss front end of 1 and 1's, and don't even shoot 13 (maybe 11).

Then make < 50% of those,we score maybe 5 from the line, and lose the game.

Great job by Corey and Freeman.
And glad no one else really had to shoot!

I knew it was Thiam because I looked at the box score yesterday.

His stat line was negligible.

IMO Thiam needs to add muscle, develop his shot / become self confident (TUDE).

Here's hoping.

That is a surprise I thought they might have matched him more on Hill but we normally has a smaller guy on him. Another guy whose preseason prognosis about offensive capabilities did not pan out. He does move well for his size and should be able to put on some good weight. You do wonder if he will develop an outside shot or will his best chance be more of a take it the basket slasher.
