I wonder if we’ll still have fans pulling for a loss on Saturday.
Which part do you wonder about, whether we'll still have fans or whether the remaining fans will be pulling for a loss?

It's a strange time to announce the extension if it was signed earlier in the year. Why Wednesday before Thanksgiving, just a few days before the end of the season? Hopefully this is Monty sensing he's on the way out and trying to pressure the admin not to do it.

If there’s no buyout, he’s an at will employee and can be fired after Saturday’s loss with no penalty.

The article said it was signed in the off-season for 2 years. This doesn’t mean he can’t be let go, it is just unlikely. If we beat the Smoo Saturday then he will definitely be back next season as we will be bowl eligible. If we have a similar year next year then they might cut their losses

Montgomery called the press to announce this. I wonder why today ?????? He had months to do this..... I saw no quotes from the athletic dept. or the President.

I don't know what article you guys read, but the one I saw didn't say 💭 it was signed in the off season. Agreed upon isn't signed.

"… as a result of a two-year extension agreed upon in the offseason, a team spokesman told the Tulsa World on Wednesday.… The contract extension, which wasn’t signed until an unspecified point in the season,"

Yeah I see that. In the end if he gets the team to a bowl then they will be satisfied.

"They" didn't announce this........Montgomery did.......
yeah, this. Has anyone ever heard of a contract extension for a head coach announced by someone other than the athletics directors? Here it was an unnamed "team spokesperson". So either (a) the admin knew how this flaming bag of runny poo would be received and nobody would put their name on it or (b) the "spokesperson" is Monty or someone close to him, trying to apply pressure on the admin, or angling for his next job by making it look unfair that we extended him and then fired him.

That is generally code for SID or someone in the Sports Info department.
Chris, you're the insider on this forum...
Does the administration not understand fan support or the concept of a coaching record?
I would just like to get a pulse for what the perception of TU football is from the decision makers behind the extension.

is the amount saved from his salary worth the loss of credibility and fan base?

The University has two choices when it come to coaches:
have to hire a new coach every few years beccuse he was successful won a lot of games
or
be able to keep a coach for many years because he has average success.

There is a lot more involved than just the win/loss issue. A lot of information is provided in a thread in Hurricane Alley about Dickson and head coaching changes. Too much to try and regurgitate here. The administration is aware of fan unrest, but there are numerous other issues tied in to the bigger picture part of it.

So, they don't make decisions solely based on what fans think? That is a great idea.

Dude should’ve been fired year before last. Anyone could’ve won with the team we had last year. I’m done with supporting this program. They are just tanking in a time when every other program is building something positive. Might as well go to FCS at this point.

LOL, because everyone knows that the problems with TU athletics for the last 10 years all stem from focusing too much on fan opinion. Their amount of concern about "customer" opinion falls somewhere between the US Post Office and the North Korean government.

My 25 yrs of continuous season ticket purchases may be in jeopardy...

When i can get tix in my section on stubhub for $6 why should I pay the $39 premium???
I look at buying season tickets like gambling. I am going for the show and I am donating to the cause. I plan to spend the money and do not expect to walk away with anything but if I do then I am a winner.

To me it is like buying a subscription to the traveling Broadway shows except I am more passionately attached. If I give up my tickets it will not be all of them at once but probably 3 of my 5 in football and 1 of my 2 in basketball. But I will eventually pay my 6.99 per month for espn+ and drop my tickets completely if this keeps up.

When you don’t win it is smart to take a pay cut to keep your job.
Okay, now this makes sense. No way we get a new coach with half the money of the current coach. For all those who do not believe that the University is either in financial trouble OR has no desire to support athletics should step back and rethink their position before we get into the discussion again.

In the next few months you will get ESPN+, Disney+ along with a HULU Live TV subscription. Also a $10 price hike.

I already have that bundle except the live TV is YouTube.

The eventual part is the ticket reduction.

We have live TV through HULU, so we will dump the Disney+ and ESPN+ subscriptions we have now (ESPN+ was just one month to see a football game) when this change happens.
