once again they fall in MAAC tourney, this time not even making the finals, losing to Siena 89-85

27-6 but only one top 100 win.. Princeton..that will not cut it in year they have 3 losses outside the top 100 and a really bad loss to Rider. Cannot see any scenerio where they would get an at large bid. Last year they had a case with a few quality wins, this year not so much

Monmouth definitely in the NIT. They have no chance for the Dance. Whaata shame blowing 15 point lead vs Siena and 2 years in a row as MAAC Champs.

That's 2 years in a row that they spit the bit.
Has to be frustrating to have a great 3 months and see it all flushed in one day. Anyone here think that Rice looks to move on to someplace bigger?

he might but is he that wanted...not being able to get his team into the NCAA twice to me is a red flag in addition to his fiery demeanor. If you are failing to motivate and get your team over the hump in big spots depsite them being the dominant team in the league for two years, something is missing.

Ironic that I was on the campus of Monmouth today (took my son on a college tour) and I was talking to one of the University Administrators helping with the tour and I said to her it's going to be a tough game today playing Siena on its home court and she says "I'm not worried...we beat them badly already". I feel awful for Monmouth and I hope they get rewarded with a home game or game(s) in NIT.

The MAAC tournament is pretty much rigged for Siena when they play all the games in Albany on Siena's home floor. They play it there because they can sell plenty of tix to Siena fans which they can't do when it's been held in Buffalo in the past and the arena looked like a ghost town during the games.

Having said that Monmouth should have been able to win the conference tournament the past two seasons with their team, even on an opponents home court. If the NIT gives them a home game they will draw a big crowd in W Long Branch.

It's hard for a school like Monmouth to receive a bid if they don't win their conference's tourney, no matter what their record is.
Last appearance at the Dance was around 10 years ago for the Hawks.
Rice took over a bad program and last season ( 4th) was when his program started making people take notice of it .

Karma. Where is the mob squad now? King Rice not going anywhere!

I am so happy. If it wasn't for Grayson Allen there wouldn't be more that I root against than Monmouth.

The Pillari kid who was part of that group scored 16 in the opening round.

Now I'm sure that it pales in comparison to your exploits on the hardwood but just thought I'd throw it out there.

They had two home games last year. They beat Bucknell then lost to GW.
They'll probably get a #2 seed this year and at least one home game.

Big difference-----in that league they reward you for winning the conference regular season by playing at home.

Kinda sad to see people wish bad upon Monmouth. They're a fun team in a mid-major who holds no threats to us in recruiting/tourney bids etc. Big choke job, unfortunate for the kids. I think Robertson is a senior too? Bad way to go out.

Monmouth with **** luck. Micah Seaborn is their #2 guy missed game with knee injury I think it was . And Siena's Nico Clareth (same guy who left team , came back, and played Monmouth game with bum ankle after sitting out previous game) score 27pts in the second half, with EIGHT three pointers. Insane. Siena shot 56% from three and 54% from field .

That Maac final will be a good one. The Iona coach is great. Iona wears these teams out.

The bench mob from last year was ridiculous. You call it fun and I call it disrespectful. Maybe they had a tough time getting games vs. top schools was because of the clown act and a coach that wouldn't stop it.

agree, the clown show on the sideline to me was distasteful and after the non conference schedule should have stopped. If a coach truly wants to be serious about winning you have to forget about stuff like that...are they still doing it this year...would have looked pretty foolish as they were giving up 64 points in the 2nd half to an awful Siena team blowing a huge lead

No they didn't do it this year-----IMO it was harmless .

Gee I guess everyone will play them now huh ?

Sorry UNC and South Carolina don't make your " top schools " criteria.

Lost to Syracuse by 20 and this is one of the type schools that you are arguing shouldnt be in over them.

again..do not lose to Rider...do not lose to Siena

lmao too bad

Can only hope Pikiell does what King Rice did at Monmouth. Yeah, it's easier in their conference, whatever it is.

Edelson: Amid anguish, Monmouth program still in good place

ALBANY, N.Y. – This wasn’t how it was supposed to go down. Not with seven seniors and 55 wins over the past two years. Not with a program-record 16-game winning streak heading into Sunday's semifinals of the MAAC Championship.

They’re still going to the NIT, hollow as that sounds right now. And if they’re as good as a lot of people, including myself, still think they are, hoisting a trophy at Madison Square Garden would certainly change the narrative regarding this particular team.

In the immediate aftermath of Sunday night’s stunning loss, however, it was hard to think in those terms. Not in an era where the only prize that seems to matter is the one that involves having your name called on Selection Sunday, a right that was cruelly stripped away a year ago.

Because you can dissect this game a million different ways. But the fact remains that as much as the loss hurts, Monmouth basketball is in a pretty good place. Certainly better than it was when it lost 20-plus games three straight years when Rice took over.

And I know no one wants to hear this right now, but getting to Madison Square Garden a few weeks from now would clear to everyone around the country just how far this program has come.

Why aren't they fans of King Rice? Is he a jerk to the media? Funny that he is pals with Gonzo.
Maybe you misunderstood. They are HUGE fans. It's their local team. Not huge fans of Carino or Edelson myself.

Monmouth blew a 17-point lead, giving up 64 points in the second half. Simply can't do that.
When you play in a lower level conference, winner of the league tournament usually is the only NCAA bid.Monmouth dominated the league rankings prior to the tournament but came up short against Siena when it mattered the most.
