Iona player yells at King Rice and has words with Seaborn. I have a feeling something could happen. Iona may take exception with Monmouth bench.

Tim Cluess also mentioned they were cheerleaders and not basketball players

Iona 8 straight points to take 45-44 lead at half. Iona very talented. They don't seem to dig in enough on the defensive end.

Monmouth is the best team in NJ imo when they turn it up, there is no stopping them. Defense is a little suspect however but every guy on the team is a threat

Monmouth wins 110-102...and a melee breaka out during the handshake....the replay showed a Iona player slapping a Monmouth player in the face and then a whole lot of pushing and shoving and players had to be restrained and alot of words being said even after it seemed to calm down. Iona really poor sportsmanship

If Monmouth stays focused the entire game they are going to beat Iona by 30 when they play in WLB.

King Rice blowing kisses to the Iona fans after the game was a bit much. He also got T'd for jawing at Iona players in the first half (or so I heard).

Meanwhile, GW and Dayton played a helluva game at 7pm.

I've been telling people that King rice should not be considered for RU's coach. he went into the stands in 1997. he has personal issues that he is dealing with also. Press would have a field day. he is a timebomb waiting to explode. A coach doesn't blow kisses to the opposing fans.

They've also shown they can play which at the end of the day is what matters.

Who here wouldn't take a guy who takes a mid major on the road to beat USC , ND and GTown ?

No problem giving it back to the fans who are harassing you all night as you exit . I was there--------Iona fans were drunk and really scummy in their comments-----way over the top.

Their player struck the Monmouth kid in the handshake line-----he's supposed to walk away ?

I wouldn't give 2 cents for a kid that would.

1997------really ?

I say this not having seen any video, so maybe some salt is needed...

Blowing kisses to fans that harassed you and your team all night when you beat them? I'm okay with that.

Going into the stands? Inexcusable.

Doesn't matter if it was 10 years ago 20 years ago last year. He was a coach for a college basketball team and charged the stands. Also in 1990 while at UNC he was charged with assaulting his girlfriend, Actually choking her. He resisted arrest and dislocated a policemans thumb.

The signs are still here. And people want him to coach at Rutgers. The press would have a field day.

Second time in 2 years Iona has had a scuffle in their home court. Last year it was St Peter's I believe.

For the Rice T, one of the Iona players also got T'd so it could be a case of him defending his players. All of the Monmouth fans had no clue he even got a T. I only saw it on the ESPN.com play by play.

There is lots of bad blood between these teams and good chance they will meet 2 more times this season.

Why is it that coaches who could potentially be difference makers at Rutgers have baggage on and off the court? The pickings are slim when it involves mens basketball.

Iona has a few guys with character issues, English is one of them. they also play zero defense and no longer have Laurey to lean on anymore for all the little things. monmouth was 14-17 at one point in the second half. Justin Robinson is a better point than most in Big Ten.

And stating the obvious. His last name is Rice. We'd have to endure countless re-runs of the Mike and Ray videos, and probably some underhanded comments about how RU didn't respect Condoleezza.

King Rice did more to instigate what I think was a minor melee, and lost a lot of support last night,
by repeatedly barking/talking to Iona players in the first half. One technical, but lots of fences for him to mend
after people see him repeatedly talking to Iona players on the court.
That is one of the 5 worst things a coach at any level can do during a game.

Washington of Iona suspended for 2 games for slapping Monmouth player during handshake.
