Measures Biometrics, tracks distance/speed I believe.

As far as the game, that's a tight call. I suppose he mis-timed his jump and came off a bit early, but every keeper is coming forward. Ref really seemed to just struggle overall though.

There's a good bit of craziness here.

However, my biggest question is: Why is that man wearing a sports bra?

I don't watch MLS but I do watch a lot of soccer. Almost all teams use those, both in games and training. It measures distance covered and speed. Some measure respiration and heart rate. I know some EPL clubs actually live tailor fitness training using those things.

Didn't the US goalie come off the line super early in the famous Brandi Chastain World Cup game?

Fortunately, we didn’t have VAR back then. Actually, seeing how poorly it’s been implemented, I kind of wish we didn’t have it now.

As others have already said, biometric and movement trackers. They are pretty much standard procedure now in all levels of "serious" soccer. Atlanta United will occasionally stream their academy games, and you see the U-14 teams wearing them.

I know they are used in basketball as well, you just don't see the players wearing them since they don't swap jerseys on the field like soccer players do. I would assume CFB/NFL has that kind of stuff built into the pads at this point.

We actually have a whole Athlete Engineering project at the university led by a former football player/engineering professor who is doing some serious research on wearable sensors... I think there's another story on it somewhere but this was the first one I found:

Also, the video in the original post is great. That guy's running commentary is hilarious.

Wow, it's worse than I remember. Watch how early and far Scurry comes off the line. Skip to 6:40.
