" Major League Baseball owners gave the go-ahead Monday to making a proposal to the players’ union that could lead to the coronavirus-delayed season starting around the Fourth of July weekend in ballparks without fans, a plan that envisioned expanding the designated hitter to the National League for 2020."

Good. I’m guessing baseball ratings will be pretty damn good this summer

Gotta get the MLBPA on board. I’m sure they’re ready to start getting those game checks though.

Could be going to 3, 10 team divisions with a shortened 81 game season thus eliminating NL/AL for this year, would mean all teams would need to play by the same rules.

I don’t want the DH in the NL, but an 80 game season is the perfect time frame to “try” anything they think might stick or make the game better.

Thought divisions were gonna be same

From what I’ve heard and saw yes that’s the case but you’re probably gonna play a lot more games against the “other” league with teams in your region.

Personally I like it when a pitcher gets himself in a jam, 2 on, 2 out, and has to pitch his way out of it ... except no the other team's pitcher's up, so cool freebie

And I like when a manager has to make the strategic decision if it's worth pinch hitting or not. It actually puts in some thinking into the game where you have to take risks which are pretty much always more exciting for the drama it brings. 9 players on the field. Those same 9 players in the batting order. That's how it is in the National League (and the American League prior to the early 70s).

The sad thing is the rule was put in place to generate more offense, and yet the AL has only averaged something like .15 more runs per game than the NL since the rule was instituted.

You watch any pro baseball in the last few years? Very rarely is a PH decision made these days. Starters are lucky to go past the 5th now. It’s not often you see a manager having to make a decision to PH for his pitcher who is dealing in the 7th or 8th.

Probabaly so. I watched a no crowd soccer game from Italy right before they shut down. It wasn't the same, but then I hadn't gone 2 months with no sports then either.

Any word on the minors? I know a kid trying to make it. He had a decent year in rookie ball last year but he doesn't need to miss a whole year.

I enjoy it also but realistically there is only once a game that comes into play usually. I think it is time to get the DH in the NL. I do like that the pitchers have to pitch to 3 guys or to the end of the inning. That makes manager decisions tougher than just bringing in a guy every batter from the 8th on.
