I think most schools will take a extra week of Spring Break... Hopefully Baseball, Softball, etc will continue...

Gov needs to declare emergency or schools aren’t going to be out more than a day or two at most. Otherwise they are bound to MS Public School Accountability thing.

Time for MDE and local school boards to start applying pressure on the Governor to make the hard decisions he signed up for. There needs to be a uniform response. Closing 50% of the schools while the other 50% remain open is a clown show.

I’m just not sure that closing schools is the right thing to do. Everything I’ve read says that it’s rare for children to have symptoms of the virus, although they can spread it. If you close schools that is going to force parents to stay home. Many of these parents, especially moms, are nurses. I’m just not sure that is a good move given nurses could be at a premium soon.

What percentage of all the student’s moms in Mississippi are nurses?

I have no idea but I bet it’s higher than any other single occupation, especially in the Jackson area. Seems like a large portion of the metro area is employed by some type of health care.

At the end of the day, if closing schools is best it should be done. But there will be collateral damage for closing schools. I think it’ll have a severe impact on health care employment.

It’s just weird how we are attacking it from a logical standpoint. My kids (10 and 8) have all their soccer cancelled including a tournament this weekend but will go to school as scheduled next week as of now. That’s a bigger breeding ground than outdoor sports isn’t it?

Maybe all this stuff has an effect but just seems we aren’t shutting down a ton of stuff that is much more part of daily life.

Schools are closing and Arkansas Athletic Association has confirmed there will be no spring sports after this weekend. Im sure it’ll sweep through nationwide within the week

Mde sent emails to all district today.
They aren’t shutting down any schools citing there being only one confirmed case in Forrest County. This was also in the email I received.
‘State law requires schools to make up any days schools may close, unless the Governor of Mississippi or the U.S. President declares a state of emergency.’

MS Dept. of Health says schools should "avoid mass gatherings of more than 250 people". So I guess it's only a problem if 251 students show up for classes on Monday.
