Would happily take him. Not quite a Ndongo level late loss for us, but he is an instant impact starter.

A 5* Recruit who has not quite met that ranking, but has been a solid scoring starter for a P5 team ... obviously preferred to test the NIL waters when the coach who recruited him was gone. Who knows what the conversation between the new coach and Mbako was like.

Hard to believe RU would have any chance - would be a sure-fire starter for RU, provide RU (or any team) with a 3-level scorer and adequate rebounder at the "3", and a likely 14-15 ppg scorer.

Indiana has now had its top 2 returning players (Ballo being the 3rd - but is done with eligibility) announce for the portal. Goode and Galloway are also done with eligibility - 5 of their top 6 scorers gone.

Of course, RU's situation ... not any better, even if Sommerville is retained.

Is this confirmed?
There were posts last year saying he was entering the transfer portal.
That turned out to be inaccurate.

Listen to Schiano about the portal and how not having the cultural fit can destroy your team and watse thousands.j Just plucking players doesn't work
nor does rejecting talent without checking if they would be a good fit make for a winning program.
Some problems can go away with a change of scenery .
It just takes an effort by the recruiter to know what you're getting into before bringing in a portal player or a HS recruit.
Schiano checks them out the best he can, doesn't just reject them off hand .
Pike needs to do the same, get to know , then decide

From what I could find he was arrested for criminal trespass and resisting arrest both misnomers and the resisting arrest charge was dropped.
The criminal trespass was for refusing to leave a taco bell property alter they refused to serve in in their drive through line because he was rude and he wouldn't leave.
From what read he refused to give his name at first and wouldn't open his car door making the police officer brake the passenger side window and open the door causing the resisting arrest charge.
Sounds like a butthead that went out of control because he was angry.
Might be more to the story about that anger, but if Pike checks him out , maybe the incident was a one time thing and deserves a chance.
But could be a sign of someone who despite his talent should be passed over
Pike has to make that decision and we can only speculate if Mgbako is worth picking up or given a wide berth.

Both misnomers you say ? Such odd legalese in Indiana it seems. I wonder if there are also misnomers in the NJ criminal statutes.

Kelvin Odih has asked for release from his WVU LOI. Follow the coach to Indiana or is RU a player again?

Rutgers sport teams have a serious problem successfully competing in the B1G Ten.We all have heard the reasons why from financial constraints ,poor recruiting /coaching and outdated facilities.Comments about a possible transfer's background are just another excuse why Rutgers is stuck in mediocrity.Winning matters and there are hundreds of recruits to choose from.Roster formation is critical to team success. For example, Maryland brought in 3 transfers and they are having tremendous success .

He will get bigger $$ then we will be willing to spend.
Please bring Facts when you make posts like this - I do not think you have any inside info. I am guessing this is just another in the "we have no NIL " chorus. Facts would be helpful

You hit the nail on the head in your second sentence. That sums it all up. There isn't a program that we have that isn't fighting with one or two hands behind their backs compared to B1G peers. Football is the closest and all things considered they are still mid.

It's most surprising when we compete against other B1G schools, not that we aren't. These B1G schools don't mess around.

Then why bother fighting ? This is a fight we choose to be in.

Right. It's an uphill battle but we keep fighting. We simply neglected athletics for way too long. I was told from people who would know that Rutgers was no where near ready to compete in the B1G when we got in. That became very obvious, very quickly. Changing culture is very hard. In some respects, many actually, it would have been easier if we were just starting from scratch when we got in. From the top down having the mindset of winning in everything that Rutgers touches is what should be the goal. It wasn't and, getting to that point isn't easy. The administration all the way down.

I agree with everything you posted .
If we aren’t going to change the culture , why bother ? It’s stupid to just be rooting for revenue and ton get your *** kicked

This is what Woody did in just accumulating lots of high ranked, high cost talent thinking he could make them into a team. The last 2 years he failed miserably.

MM oozes such offensive potential, just never consistently, even within the same game. His form and ability to get shots off is a thing of beauty. Just didn’t hit enough of them.

As for his D and motor, I wonder if any coach can get him to step it up in either one. He seemed like a nice enough kid (the Taco Bell incident, notwithstanding) but one of those who just grew up being so much better talent-wise than those he played against, that he didn’t have to try too hard. At this level that really showed. That’s why he was often firmly on the bench during crunch time. Couldn’t be trusted defensively, be it on ball or off.

I wish him and all the former IU players well. Hopefully they get better and more demanding coaching in the future than what Woody, one of my all-time favorite IU players gave them.

Sounds like MM to NC State. In the Wade system, he should get plenty of shots and put up numbers. His teammates will need to be good at help side defense though. Unless he vastly improves his d and motor, will continue to be a liability in close, end of game situations.

In the last week or so, there have also been rumblings of him texting anti-Semitic stuff at a now former IU women’s player, who’s headed for MD. If accurate, not a good look for the kid and certainly on IU’s part if they knew of it.

If true do you think IU actually cares ? No student should be harassed, threatened or abused . Those who allow for such actions are as guilty as the perpetrators themselves. To enable these idiots to continue with their actions constitutes criminality on their part. Being taught from grammar school through college has bred this type thinking. It’s not about Someone’s 1st Amendment… it’s about civility… respect…violence is never a solution until the opposing side says “Enough”.

We keep fighting but we don't even have an AD what a joke that is we will be without a real AD for a year or more sorry I can't even remember what month Hobbs left; No other program would go that long without an AD its just ridiculous; We are going to need a new AD that is a miracle worker

It hasn't been a year but I get your point. If we had a President we'd already have an AD. This was the perfect storm of events.

No real AD is going to take a job where they don't know who their boss will be. President. AD. That's the order.
