Restaurants can only do carry out. The mayor called it a “Civil Emergency”. I really don’t understand this. I don’t see it having any impact. All restaurants that were open were already limiting a capacity to 1/3. Gyms are limiting their occupancy as well. There were 4 people in my gym today and everything is so soaked in sanitizer it’s probably cleaner than any operating room.
I am curious how this is legal? How can a mayor shutdown a business, more specifically how can he shutdown certain business and not others. There will be more people and In closer contact in restaurant kitchens than in many gyms.

Governor announced today that Alabama is carryout only for restaurants, bars closed. Most gyms have been closed for a while by their corporate offices.

Beaches are also closed. I suppose if spring breakers won't follow common sense it has to be done for them. Saw a video today, from somewhere in Florida, that a woman was on the beach with a couple of little girls that looked to be 5 or 6 - and surrounded by spring breakers.

I’m honestly more baffled that you have an issue with this happening. It should have happened a week ago

I just don’t understand the logic behind it. If he believes there is an emergency, why not shutdown everything? Why gyms? Most people I’ve talked to who are active gym goers have said their gyms have taken steps to comply with the CDC as well as drench everything in sanitizer.

I don’t understand how there’s people out there that still don’t get it.

Yeah it's way past the point of being anything other than ego keeping them from admitting they were wrong. You can't actually be this oblivious to what's happening. They are going to dig in and in a few days when the **** has really hit the fan they will suddenly disappear.

Because it has to be ego. It's impossible to really deny how serious this is.

Unless you are just that dumb. Bru is probably that dumb. I think the others just don't want to admit they were wrong.

Because next week is probably the most critical week as far as containment. It’s vitally important to limit contact

If that is what our city leaders

Who have a lot more info than anyone else believe will Stop it, by all means go for it. I’ll comply, no problem. But if it is an emergency, why just those things?

This questioning of science is why:

Within 1 month we will lead the world in positive Covid19 tests. The curve is going to explode for the next 2 weeks in the US. We have shot past S. Korea and France already. Germany and Spain by Monday. We will pass Iran shortly after that and it will be a photo finish between us and Italy to pass China by the end of the month. By the first of April, we will be out in front. We will eventually get to the lockdown, but it's already taken too long.

We all should be on a total lockdown for 30 days immediately. You get to leave during certain hours 2-3 days a week based on last digit of social. Call it a month of probation, parole, prison, or whatever. Then enjoy the summer and do it again in October, because this **** is gonna be nasty when it gets cold again... Our best hope is for some kick *** antiviral work between now and the 4th.

FYI. I have had the Sock's clan at home since last Thursday. Nobody has left besides me. I have left the house a few times to get supplies, but I head out of town to small grocery stores that are not crowded and I wear my nitrile gloves and a dust mask. I am on hiatus from my job and Mrs Sock's is working from home in the healthcare technology sector... Seeing real-time data that let's her know this is not a just the tip situation right now, the zipper hasn't even been pulled yet.

Globally the breaking point is the ICU beds. China had a 5.8% death rate in Wuhan because they overwhelmed the ICU's and could not get support for those that needed it most. The rest of China experienced a 0.7% death rate because there were plenty of ICU beds due to the Wuhan lockdown. Those numbers may be massaged by Beijing, but the reality was confirmed by some of Mrs Sock's coworkers that were on the ground in Wuhan in January and February.

By all accounts, NYC is going to be a real problem in about 4-6 weeks.

Follow me here. It has nothing to do with how clean your gym is. It has to do with preventing infected people who dont know they are from spreading it to other people. If an infected person lays on a alcohol soaked bench, they can still transmit the virus.

Some business have to stay open so people dont starve to death or have medicine that keeps them alive. A gym does not qualify.

If this explanation still baffles you. Probably best to not express it.

I don’t know the background here in terms of what else has or hasn’t been done in Memphis, but here are the three general questions I’d ask

1. Is the business required for daily life? No
2. Does the business have confined space? Yes
3. Does the business promote large gatherings? Yes

If the above questions can be answered as such, it should’ve already been shut down.

I’m surprised they are just now doing this. I’ve been in a small NC mountain town since Monday, and they shut everything down on Tuesday. Drive thru/takeout only.
I’ve actually got a small amount of chest congestion right now, and yes it has me wondering.
