Ahh yes one of the few highlights of MSU football during my student days. That was a good day.

To me this is the most shocking MSU win of my lifetime, maybe ever. We had lost to Maine, a 2-9 Vandy, and UAB in the weeks preceding this, and also got massacred by Auburn and LSU.

Obviously the Zook era at Florida sucked, especially compared to what they were under Spurrier, but I cannot stress enough how unlikely it was when THAT State team beat a Top 20 team. You could’ve easily convinced me that South Panola would’ve beaten us at one point that year, and I’m not exaggerating.

I still remember seeing all those people decide to come to the game in the second half after they realized we might actually have a chance. Lost my mind when Norwood broke off the game winning TD.

Also, for anyone who may remember these kind of things, is this the last time that the goal posts were torn down after a game at Davis Wade? I cannot recall an instance since this game.

I had not thought about it until now but yes that’s probably the last time the goal post came down at DW. I was on the field for all of those except Bama 96. That was an 11am game. Hardly anyone there for kickoff and 1st quarter but you could see the stadium filling up as the game went on. By 3rd quarter there was a good sized crowd. That is one of the most fun games I’ve watched at DWS. After all of the lows of the season up until that point, that felt like winning a championship.
