While your phrase fits them over time, I think you mean adversity in this context

Lots of issues but the defense gave us plenty of chances to win the game. Matt was not good. One of the worst officiated games I have seen in a while.

Watching the highlights, it looked like Kiffin blew up a couple of times after

Corral made some poor decisions with the football. As much as that guy has sacrificed his body for that team this season I would have told Lane where to shove that clipboard.

You must not have been simulcasting both of the evening games then.

Lane also apparently passed up three field goal attempts to go for it on fourth down and failed every time. I think fans are getting tired of his analytics and going for it every time, because it’s hurt them more than helped.

Kick FGs in close games....Lane hasn't learned....

that yet. Ole Miss will lose another game, maybe 2.

Kiffen is NOT a good coach. He struck gold with Corral entirely by the fact that Ole Miss, despite his obvious talent, was the only P5 that would take him. All of them are made for each other.

No doubt going for it on 4th down when conventional wisdom...

is to punt or kick a field goal will pay off some....but its silly to think Kiffin has cracked some kind code and knows better than what the best coaches (and the average and bad coaches) in the game have done for 100 + years...

Anyone that thinks their game against Liberty will be easy next week is crazy. Freeze coming back to Oxford with with possibly the number 1 overall pick at the helm of his offense could make for some interesting football in Oxford.

They finish with Liberty, @TAMU, Vandy, @MSU. They could go 2-2 through that stretch.

We don’t handle it well over here either.

Let me just add that if we beat OM and Arkansas, we’ll most likely have the same record as them at the end of the year. Liberty could beat them too and in that case we would finish the year with a better record. I really really really need this to happen. That would be sweet justice.

Our game versus Arkansas last year was like this; Leach passed up field goals that ultimately would have been enough. Without second guessing every one, not taking the last one when down 8 made no sense to me. Auburn goes down and gets their own FG and now its 11 and the game is basically over.

They're gonna beat Liberty by 40. Freeze doesn't have DJ Metcalf and AJ Brown on that team.

They could finish 1-3. They have only beat one decent team, and they’re piling up the injuries. Altmeyer possibly could be starting for them at some point. I know he’s prolly not bad, but he’s got no experience, very young and not Corral. Liberty could light them up. A&M could punish them, hell Vandy will score on them, and it’s looking better for us the more we play.

Earlier in the season I would have agreed, but Ole Miss is beat up now (injury wise) and reeling from a bad loss that knocked them out of contention. Freesus might catch them napping at 11 am. That was a grueling stretch they just finished.

Liberty seems to have a little momentum too.

Those analytics were based on data whereby the defense was 'surprised' by the decision for the offense to go for it on fourth down. Ole Miss is very predictable in this department, so teams prepare for it during their week of practice. The D just has to make a stand for one down, blitz like hell, and hold the receivers on the line of scrimmage. You could see that some of the plays that Kiffin called on fourth down were down the field, but Auburn did an incredible job covering the receivers. I believe a D can get very pumped up to make a stop on fourth down... the rewards are tremendous.

Lane was stressed because he knew losing to AU would hurt his chances at the LSU job. You just have to understand his real motivation, it's not for the love of the Rebels & Corral, but for the love of making a step up on the coaching ranks... The retiring of Eli's number was a nice touch, too.... He can play that relationship with Arch to the folks at LSU.
