It's time for a new mattress. Woke up this morning and I can hardly move. Thinking of going with a memory foam type. Anyone sleep on one of those? How hot are they? What should I expect to pay? Appreciate any info y'all can give on this.

Recently bought a new house so we got the Tempur Pedic Luxe Breeze. But exchanged it for the Purple. Bought both at Mattress Firm. About the same price. The purple is awesome, it’s not memory foam it’s a newer technology that feels great.

I'm personally not a fan of the memory foams, they make me sweat in hot humid weather. Sleep Number is my favorite. It can whatever you want it to be, firm soft just whatever. They make several with memory foam tops so you can still get the feel of the memory foam with the support and adjustability of the air. It will take you several weeks to a month to find your number but once you find it, it's hard to sleep without it. Eliminated my back pain.
MLILY harmony Chill is fantastic and is about 2,000. They also make and adjustable bed frame, almost identical to the tempur pedic. We are on our second MLILY mattress. We got hot on the tempur pedic equivalent mattresses and didn't like the feel of them.

Mattresses are impossible. You can't trust what they feel like at the store because you don't sleep on it. Even when you buy one, it will take 30-60 days to break it in. So if it's comfortable on nights 1-2, it might not be on nights 100-200.
Best advice I ever heard is find a comfortable mattress at a hotel (it will already be broken in... In more than one way.) If you like it, remove the sheets and find the label. The manufacturer usually makes a hotel specific model under one name, but should have the same model in a consumer version with a different potentially.

My brother did this and it turned out to be only $300. Fell apart after 2-3 years but totally worth it
Believe it or not, you can buy the parts and build your own mattress. Memory foam retains heat and breaks down over time so latex is generally recommended. Simply buy the latex layers and/or springs and a mattress cover. When it comes, just throw everything in the cover and zip it up. You can get 2-3 latex layers in different firmness and rearrange them to get the right firmness.

I went with split king setup with adjustable bases. My based are from Dynasty King.
We went with the TemperPedic ProBreeze which are supposed to keep you cool. Didn't for me. Did for my wife. I switched it out to the LuxeBreeze Firm which is supposed to be even cooler. Still didn't really keep me cool. I then switched to a Purple 3 Hybrid which I am liking. I slept on my wife's side (ProBreeze Med) last night and let her try the Purple. I did not like the TemperPedic any more at all. Too firm and hot for my tastes now. Hope this helps.

We had a really expensive mattress for years because it was supposed to be one of the better yet my wife and I still never were really comfortable and pain free after a nights sleep. We decided to go with a Sven and Son split king mattress with an adjustable head and feet and it’s the best thing we ever did. I wake up with zero back pain in the morning and feel so much better. The best thing is the price is not going to break the bank.
No prob, it’s really easy to do but I’ve caught some weird looks telling folks I built my own mattress. We did split king with coil springs and two 2” layers of latex. Medium/firm for my side and soft/medium for the wife’s side. The coil springs are supposed to help sleep cooler. Else you could just go with three layers of latex.
$400 mattress warehouse, almost every major city has one. If you pay more than that they call you a sucker.
I would tend to agree. I'm not sure we've ever spent that much. I don't shop around and lay on them either. We've always bought whatever was on sale with no problems. I travel a lot and sleep fine wherever on whatever
8" firm memory foam mattress from WalMart with a 3" gel infused memory foam topper...bout $350 total. Best sleep I've had in years and it replaced a $1400 Stearns & Foster set. I have two degenerative discs and it works great for me.
Guy who owns some land adjoining me also has a nearby warehouse building nearby that he rents. We were working on the fence separating our property and we needed something that he had at his warehouse. We walking in and his current renter is a mattress manufacturer. There are mountains of used mattresses stacked in there and this business is cutting the covers off and sewing new covers on them. Name brand mattresses, Sealey, Sterns and Foster, you name it. One minute a used hotel mattress, a few minutes later a brand new mattress. Keep buying those $400 warehouse mattresses, bodily fluids and insects probably didn't make it past the old cover.
We have the top of the line from Mattress Firm (two extra long singles together make a king, and you get individual adjusting). They're not hot at all and are the most comfortable I've ever slept in. I believe they were on the order of $1700 each about 4 years ago. The adjustable bases were about the same. Total right at $7K. The mattresses are available in different firmness levels, so you have to get both sides the same so they're the same height. That's a compromise if you and your wife like different firmness.
We recently upgraded and decided sleep was something you do the majority of your life decided to go quality. We were willing to pay a lot. Went tempur pedicure route. Be prepared for a drastic change in sleep. Returned and went Sterns and Foster. Couldn’t be happier.
I'm telling you, people will pay silly ridiculous prices for basic mattresses that are known to have 800% markup. It's the reason there's a mattress firm on every corner. Some beds go as high as 1200% markup.
The idea of being able to unzip the mattress and wash it has me intrigued more than anything else.

I found a couple of beds in Westin and Marriotts and bought those. Now in our guest rooms.. Our new bed I didn't and gives my back fits. It was comfortable for the first few months but my big *** has worn it down.
Man the folks on this board are getting old. 10-15 years ago or whenever sixpack was started this thread would have been made fun of and rightly so.
Mobile Bay likes the zipper open mattress so he can stuff all of his bitcoin in there so easily.
There are a few things in life that are critical and require the input from the entire SPS network... Where InTheIttaBenaHotSon plans on screwing your wife (and possibly mine) for the next several years is one of such cases.
