Met him at his pizza joint in summer of 2022. Of course I was hopeful about the NU football season to come. He informed me that positive sentiments would not be enough and that things were decidedly not working out. Dude was very direct in giving his opinions. RIP to an original.

Gentlemen I've noticed that many of us are of a certain age. My old man died 7 years younger than I am now of his 3rd heart attack. I pay $300-400 every few years for a cardiac calcium scan. Measures plaque in your arteries. I'm not saying it would have saved anyone, it's just something we can do and maybe it will. RIP VRZ

Given his family history, one has to wonder if he was taking appropriate preventative measures.

Whats that like? I had an ultrasound done a couple months ago as a precautionary measure (Im in my late 30s). It definitely wasn't the worst procedure I've gone through, but it was a bit unpleasant when they're scanning the top of the heart and have to jam on your throat. Just curious what this process is like.

I had a carpenter friend die in my backyard a couple of years ago. Was finishing up for the day on a deck build and dropped dead walking to put away a saw. He was probably an hour gone when I found him. Undiagnosed ventricular arrhythmia. He hadn't been feeling good and planned on changing docs. He was a couple of years younger than Vrzal, but his old man also had problems. Hell, my old man probably died of a stroke and was not doubt having little strokes the day of his death. His gf and sister told him to go to the doc, but he thought he just had a flu something. Some dudes just don't want to go the doc.

It’s easy. It takes like five minutes. You’ll get an idea of how bad things are, but it’s doubtful you can reverse arterial plaque. The heart is pretty cool though because it will find ways around blockages with new vessels. Get your weight down and your blood pressure under control.

Be honest...getting the deck for free was pretty sweet, wasn't it?

I did one at like 45 and asked my doc when I should do it again, he said never. I think I'm definitely going to do it again mid 50's. Why drop dead of blockage because you don't know?

Dude was always paid out and I had to pay the non-friend, contractor rate for a replacement deck on the front of my house the following summer. And he was a great guy.

Weight isnt too bad. Im 5 foot 10 200. Per BMI I should be at 173, but hells to that. Id look like a holocaust survivor at 173.

Im aiming for 190. Maybe 185. Blood pressure is good. I have slightly low blood pressure. No genetic history either. Its been precautionary because my heart went afib a weeks back. But my ultrasound came back looking great. So they were talking about doing an MRI next but that machine freaks me the hell out so any alternate options would be great.

Exactly, my hope is that they'd find accumulation before it became a blockage. I've wasted that amount of money on way dumber stuff!

My wife deals with that phobia, fear whatever too. She gets a single Valium prescribed and I drive her.

In the same boat. If I was 173 at 5"10 I'd be shredded. At 185 I have full stomach definition, but haven't seen that number in 10 years.. Kids I tell ya.

You are the first poster to ever admit that you are NOT shredded.

The rest of us are all totally jacked, **** like porn stars, have married our best friend who looks like a porn star and all our kids (adopted or biological) are ******* perfect.

I think his reasoning for not doing the scan again is that there is some radiation from the CT machine and you don't want to do multiple elective scans. I mean, I've been in a CT machine ONCE in my life, doing it once or twice more can't be that risky, can it? I guess I'll do my research.

That's interesting, I'm gonna look into that. I've done the Lifeline screening thing, a few times and it's came back clear. I wonder if the Calcium scan is more accurate and in depth?

On another note; my Physical Therapist put me on this test for your blood. I guess it's hereditary and could explain some unknown causes for some people's heart issues. ApoB and ApoA1 testing can be used to assess hereditary heart attack risk, with high ApoB levels and low ApoA1 levels indicating an increased risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. It's not part of a regular Lipid profile test and you have to ask for it. I guess maybe 25% of the population may have it and there is no treatment for it as yet. But I guess something may be in the pipeline. I plan on doing this next Dr. visit.
