They also beat Wisconsin and Creighton at Creighton. When I saw Marquette play UConn, I thought they were a very solid team. UConn got an unusually good game from Polley who had a career high 23 points which he has not come close to since. Marquette just played really bad defense and lost track of Polley for a 10 minute stretch of that game, otherwise they looked pretty good. Their freshman Garcia had a great game against UConn and is a very good player.

It's a tough league, the Big East. It is not your Uncle's Big East from the 1980s but it is pretty good and just about any of the league teams can hang with any P5 conference teams

Tough team to figure out. Should get a big bump up in the NET before the rematch on SAT :
Currently NET # 100 Marquette record now- 11-12 overall / 5-5 road / 3-6 Quad 1

Yeah, go figure, UNC was supposed to be the 3rd best team yesterday in the ACC according to the NCAA's NET. But then lose at home to #100 Marquette. Longtime Providence writer Kevin McNamara said earlier this year that they've been underrating the BE in the pre-season for awhile now. But then the BE goes OOC and takes " P-5" teams out early in the year and the conference moves up. So that might hurt the BE rankings this year.

At the end of the day alot the P-6 schools are like NBA teams, anyone can beat anyone depending on who gets hot on what night. ( Thank you TP in game 1 vs. Marquette for that 18 point comeback). And Marquette was up big last night (IIRC, 18 points) until UNC cut it to 7. But then they closed the deal.

I think Marquette is one of those teams where the sum of the parts is greater than the whole. I have seen them play around 3-4 games including against UConn and they are an erratic team for reasons that are not clear. It could have something to do with their coaching but not really sure. In my opinion they should be better than their record. Sometimes teams have bad chemistry for whatever reason. Think 2009-2010 UConn. Jerome Dyson was widely blamed for the chemistry issues on that team, yet when Dyson was starting the prior year with veteran PG AJ Price in the backcourt, UConn was a very clear #1 in the country until Dyson got injured. There was no explanation for that bad chemistry and it might be similar issues with Marquette.

Bottom line, they are a dangerous team that is better than their record and can play with anyone on a given day.

Please not this again, I have inside info about Dyson's SR year and there was a reason JC had enough of him towards the end of it and finally benched him...

Inside info aside, the 2008-09 team with Dyson was number 1 in the country and his injury changed the team. I can remember a game at Louisville in January of that season which led to UConn being ranked number 1 in which UConn held a Loiuisville/Pitino coached team to about 51 points on its home court and Dyson was a huge part of that. Something may have happened his senior year but the point is the chemistry was good before it was bad and these things are hard to put a finger on. Prior to the 2009-10 season nobody saw what was coming, was coming. That's kind of the point here. Marquette looks to me like the kind of team that has chemistry issues that are preventing them from being better, and some times it's a fine line and very little causes it to get messed up.

Yeah for the better...;)....the guy I felt the worse for was Sticks, he turned into a projected 1st round pick without him. It's a shame he came back for his SR year with Dyson, he would've set his family up for life if he hadn't.

lol on the Dyson stuff. The team in 2009 was obviously better with Dyson. Every single statistic backs that up.

Whatever happened 2010 was 2010. A healthy Dyson and there's no way the team loses that 6OT game and no way it loses to MSU.

@the Blades Laugh all you want. He played 24 games and they were 23-1. They had slaughtered Top 5 Louisville on the road.

He came back and they went 4-2 the rest of the regular season and lost to a Syracuse team we had curb-stomped with Dyson in their first game of the BET. He was a better secondary ballhandler than Austrie and Kemba wasn't quite ready yet, as he showed against Michigan State. Also Dyson was the best perimeter defender that year, which would have come in handy against MSU and then UNC. Fully healthy, that team may have been the best UConn team. They were excellent on defense and diverse on offense. Losing Dyson took a little away from the offense (he was their best slasher) and a decent amount from their perimeter D.
