While OP is a bit hypercritical, I see where he’s coming from. If we’re to be a true contender, our 5 position was our greatest weakness. Cam really plays hard and I love that but he lacks an elite skill. He’s undersized, not a stretch 4 or even a mid range pick and pop player, not a rim protector, and a merely average rebounder, and doesn’t have great footwork.

He does understand his role and the system and he’s rarely out of position. That to me is invaluable as a 6th or 7th man but kills you as a primary player getting 20-25 minutes a game.

Even at that he has no outside shot

Cam is, by far, the best screener on the team and it’s not even close. Since screening is paramount in Ben’s offense, he’ll continue to start.
Lol..Surely Ben can coach “screening” into someone that is more of a contributor on the floor in other critical areas.

Look - I’m not knocking Cam’s effort or anything on a personal level but teams need more from guys that see that many minutes / game. It’s just that simple.

But this season, if not Cam then who plays?

That would be a great question for coach Been McColumn on his radio call in show

You’ve got Fran syndrome. There’s more to basketball than just scoring the ball…

Sorry. I don’t agree that a player so limited should be on the floor nearly as many minutes as Cam received this season.

So, agree to disagree.
We made the elite eight….with Cam as starter and playing significant minutes. Are you claiming we would have made it farther without Cam playing that role?

I mean…That’s not the direction I’m going with this but now you mention it

If we had a taller 5 that wasn’t as limited as Cam as our 5, sure, we definitely would have had a better chance to beat Illinois.

It’s not difficult to understand that, is it??

Man…….some of you are SO damn defensive you fail to realize some very basic observations.

There’s also way more to this. If we had a Power Forward that was 6-9 230 vs Banks having to battle the giants 3 inches taller and 20-25 lbs heavier as well. But you’re also Iowa and in most cases in the sweet 16 or whatever game you’re in you probably won’t have the same caliber of player. We’ve seen it in football and basketball for the last 40 years. The last time we truly had elite talent was the Elite 8 team recruited by Raveling 40 years ago. Coach them up and go to battle with what you have.
