Great game, 11 rebounds!! I know Pike doesn’t like to change the starting lineup after a win but I’d go with Manny over Lathan next game. When a guy gets 11 boards and the starter gets 0, you have to reward that. Also will help light a fire under Lathan to do better there.

Ogbole huge tonight. Can't have both Lathan and EO giving nothing. If one is having a better game Pike needs to ride them and sit the other

Hopefully something clicked bc he has the size strength length and athletic ability to be an outstanding rebounder if he does figure it out

He finally seemed less tentative attacking the glass

Somerville zero rebounds

Sommerville needs to learn how to box out. Multiple times tonight he just stood there with his hands at his side or kept them straight up in the air from playing defense as the ball was bouncing off the rim.

He was in no position to rebound a ball.

And he also needs to stop reaching in every single time he’s defending a guy.

Did you see the UCLA game?

I knew you were loving it. The gap between Lathan and Ogbole tonight was startling unfortunately

Lathan needs to watch film and self motivate. 0 rebounds is embarrassing
and stop acting like a baby… and stop hogging the ball…. and make your rotations… and REBOUND!!

Richie called it in last weeks ATS thread. He is a horrible defender.

Didn't think of the Jay Young angle - maybe. Considering the size of the Big 10 five men, he has to be our main 5 the rest of the way.

His biggest issue is being more assertive and dominating with his size. He has a tendency to stand and watch instead of imposing on the other team. He showed it tonight with the "jump ball" rebound at the end.

Not many players would've ripped it away from him on that.

He had the ball in an awkward position where almost everybody would lose the ball bc of leverage but he's just an absolute monster

If he picks up a foul a game going too hard after rebounds I wouldn't hate it. I think he's scared to foul bc he's so big and strong

Yes unfortunately what he did in the UCLA game has zero to do with what he did tonight.

His effort at grabbing a rebound tonight was atrocious.

Go back and watch a replay of the game if you don’t believe it.
Okay, we can only look at tonight's game. He was lousy tonight. I didn't understand that when you wrote "Sommerville needs to learn how to box out." Didn't realize you were making that assessment based exclusively on tonight.

Huge! Jump ball was so big and he had no business getting it that ball was behind his head.

Don't mess with the starting lineup or anything we've finally found something that is working. He looks like a different guy coming off the bench let him come in and put in that work on the boards (and play more minutes overall).

This is where I'm conflicted. The bench guys have been such a boost you don't want to mess with it, but the starting line up has really been pretty bad together. 3 of the four halves they've played together they've been outscored by like 6 or 7, putting us in holes. I'm not sure if its Acuff or Sommerville I'd change, and also not sure who I'd replace Acuff with, but would like to see him in a spot he can be more assertive offensively.

Don't touch Acuff because he plays best off the ball and it allows Harper to run the offense. JMike and Williams dominate the ball and it throws the offense out of rhythm. They are better coming off the bench.

Ogbole has played well but Pike used to yank him after 4 minutes as a starter, so not sure if makes a difference, as long as he's getting his minutes.

Feel for Hayes but I like the new rotation.

Leave line up exactly as is. I'd rather bring in EOs toughness off the bench. Adds an extra dimension.... and puts the ball in Jwills hands as 6th man..

If Martini can find his stroke, so can Hayes

Really we just need one of them to be the 3 point threat that they were brought in to be. Recruiting two 3 point specialists and having both give you nothing was brutal

Definitely tough, but we need to find a way to start faster somehow offensively

I think Dylan and Ace have to just be more aggressive right from the tip to get us going then get the role players involved. Dylan especially. Ace sometimes jacks a bad shot early

Seems like many games the offensive runs through role players too much at the very start

Ogbole, Martini and Grant had good complimentary games. Acuff had an off game. Consistency will be the question and Ogbole and Martini (especially Martini) have not shown that they can be consistent so I wouldn't expect the same thing next game.

I think we are going to need something out of Acuff this year, and we aren't getting it with this current rotation. Even including Dylans multiple three point run in the start of UCLA 2nd half, the starting lineup has been outscored by double digits in the last two games. The four freshman on the court at the same time are -19 in these two wins.

Our centers come out and set picks for Harper who gets double teamed often. Need more pick and rolls to the centers. Get them in the game offensively. Somerville is good offensively and Ogbole deserves a couple of touches to keep the defense honest

I don't know, maybe. Maybe it's something with the way the P&R runs with Lathan? Not sure what the answer is.

Ogbole’s hands have improved tremendously, there were times last season he couldn’t catch a cold. Honestly I’m super impressed with his turn around maybe it is Jay Young’s coaching.
