September 3 start date. Same staggered start for two weeks as planned. Meanwhile Rankin is starting as normal with no staggered start.

We have no leadership in this country.

Each school district has elected school boards that determine their own plans. If you don't care for a decision, you simply vote them out. I can't imagine anyone at a national level having enough granular knowledge to make decisions for all school districts in the country, nor can I imaging any single nationwide plan being a fit for every school district in the country.

I honestly feel like Tate has handled this rather well, at least compared to his contemporaries. But, I think a centralized voice for all MS public schools would be beneficial.

^^^This. I am pretty sure there are still laws in most states where you can challenge local politicians to a gunfight for being idiots. If not, there should be.

It's almost as though electing individuals who preach "government is bad" wasn't a good a idea.

Corinth is going back Monday. As in this Monday, July 27. Now Madison has unilaterally decided to delay until September 3? Will they add those four weeks to the end of the year?

By Friday every parent must have committed to either Distant learning or learn at the school in the Rankin County schools. I suspect based on the number who chose to school as normal might dictate if they delay the start. I have not heard that but I suspect that.

I know that at Germantown, four students requested the remote option. Madison isn't allowing kids that go remote to do extracurriculars or sports, but still that was a low number.

Is the Madison County School Superintendent elected or appointed?

That’s because Corinth goes to school year round.

i think they’re the only school district in the state with a all year school calendar.

Oktibbeha county school board voted all students will start August 10th. From what I read there is no option. Said if necessary they’ll adjust accordingly. Also all students will end up with laptops. IMO seems a little risky as positive numbers in this county have been climbing although OCH is in good shape regarding Covid patients.

The government isn't very good any anything. That's not exactly the same as saying government is bad...

Yeah this is an unusual time where some sense of uniformity would seem like a good idea - especially at a state level for public schools given all the already confusing statistics

No one has yet explained to me what this staggered start, does? Does the virus know that we're giving it a 2 week head start to give it time to disappear so that when the kids all show at once, it will finally be gone?

A lot more will start soon. I’d freakin love it. You could actually take a vacation with your family during the fall or spring.

The two week staggered start is supposed to be practice for when they ultimately go to the hybrid learning. That’s all. Gives everyone a few practice virtual learning days before the real deal

Sorry and this might sound bad but Fauci has been in his position too long. I really don't listen to him anymore. I think they are further along with finding an vaccine.
I’m sure your source is right... my question. Who’s lining up for this hastily developed vaccine? Probably just poors and old people. ***
