I have two thoughts about why we haven’t heard anything yet.
1. He didn’t want the attention from Stringers retirement to overshadow the MBB game (media).
2. She will be the coach for upcoming basketball season.
It’s hard to get rid a Black HOF coach who is praised by virtually everyone (media). Its becomes even harder when she wasn’t on the bench coaching this year.
As I have said elsewhere, it is hard to get rid of a HOF coach, regardless of race, without being able to prove your hire is an upgrade. Like others, I lament that Rutgers is not the team it used to be, but excluding this season, there have been winning records, postseason appearances and some really good recruits. The records may be misleading as the post-seasons have had poor results, but you need to show in your hire that you are expecting deep post season runs. It is clear that Rutgers administration has not made that commitment. It has been north of 10 years since we had a deep post-season run unless you count the WNIT.
As to the coach being praised, I praise her. Great person, great coach, great pioneer. It doesn't mean I don't think Rutgers should move on. I haven't noticed media writing articles praising her, but if so, well, you can't stop them.
Yes, you cannot "blame" her for this season's result as regards making a move (especially if the leave was RU approved and presumably they know details we don't). Obviously, if she wasn't on leave results would likely have been better (I'm not saying to what degree). Equally, if there is a reason to think that she cannot return to daily coaching, then, well, that would be a reason for retirement.
