Bear fan here.

First off, great game to the Cardinals. Had a simple game plan and executed beautifully. Diamont out coached Holder completely and totally. Great job to them and best of luck the rest of the way.

Next, I have to say that tonight couldn't have been more embarrassing for Mount Airy. Simply outplayed, East Surry wanted it more, and just completely blew Mount Airy back in every phase of the game. Pure and simple. On senior night in the Bears' own house no less. After all this talk of a 16-0 season and talk around town of how this MA team is on the same level as 2008, this loss was a punch in the gut and face back to reality. Cardinals run pretty much the exact same plays over and over on offense, made long drives, capitalized, and held Mount Airy to three and outs. Mount Airy in the pretty, new era spread offense got manhandled by old school, ground and pound. No excuses on this one. Bears are totally a more talented team, as their season and schedule has shown, but they honestly looked unprepared, clueless, overconfident, in a total daze and confused that they were getting their rear ends handed to them, and looked for someone to lead them out, but nobody stepped up to do it. My prediction (and I hope I am wrong): we won't survive the second round (heck after tonight's performance, the first round is no guarantee). Not gonna be beating East Surry for at least the next four years so tonight was their last chance for a while. Oh well, it was a good season while it lasted

With a pretty weak schedule (doubt any team Mount Airy has played makes it out of the 1st round of the playoffs) it was hard to tell how good Mount Airy truly was this season, I guess now we know.

I still expect the Bears to make a decent run in the playoffs, because aside from West Montgomery, the 1AA west is going to be as weak as cat piss with Murphy and Mitchell both likely being small 1A.

Agree with you mbd.... Mt. Airy will be a test. West Montgomery has to come down off the high of the game. Not too many outside of MoCo realize how big that game was. Thank God there is a week off. Not to mention there are a few obstacles with a surprise attack, Walkertown last year, West Montgomery should do ok. If em could get their team on the same page they could do some damage against teams that haven't seen them. West knew their game plan, knew they had two options. Hell, if any team has a need for film....

I'm giving ES and MA both respect.... Nothing but respect buzz. Not team in the West has a hard conference schedule. That's what mbd meant. WM had zero schedule strength until tonight. It's what it is in 1A. I hope the Bears or the Cards make a run again to Wadeville. Y'all like that place don't you?

Murphy hasn't played but one decent team this year and got thumped and say Bears played a weak schedule. They picked a bad game to sit back and trust their def and not make any changes till 4th qrtr. Congratulations to ES on great game execution. MA was not sharp at all. Lots of chances just too many missed opportunities to wide open receivers.

7 man O line vs 4 man D line till late in the 3rd.
For what ever reason, that cost Mount Airy.

One thing that just may help the Bears in the playoffs, just may, is let Frost run. He is their best offensive threat. Seems like touches for him are fewer and fewer each game. When he does touch it, good stuff happens. I guess it is what happens in the spread offense. Got to keep those quarterbacks and wide receivers happy

Really? I could have sworn that Murphy played 2a Hendersonville, 4a Gilmer County, GA, and Swain. Those are pretty decent teams. Cherokee is pretty good when healthy too, then there is two time defending 1a western regional and SMC champ Robbinsville. The knights are a bit off this year but are still capable of beating plenty of 1a teams in the state. Don't be fooled by that Franklin score. It was early in the season and Murphy didn't have all the pieces in place at the time. It would be a totally different game today.

I couldn't figure that out either. I would have opened the second half with nine men in the box, and if they could still beat that, then tip my hat to them. There wasn't anything fancy about what ES was doing. It was basically, "here we come, stop us if you can." They had 56 runs and four passes tonight.

Y'all want to talk about a fraud..... MA or ES can handle the joke of a team from Biscoe..... They have three plays for McKinney. He and the QB aren't on the same page. They won 10 games against the YVC and a few fluffers. Last year I think they threw helmets at each other in a game. Mt. Airy or ES vs. WM. for State.

I don't k now right now NC about Swain. A month ago, I'd tell you we were a machine to be reckoned with. I think that's when we peaked and from the sounds of it, I'd say Mount Airy played like we did last night. We've became predictable in just about everything we do on offense and it seems like when we do pass, sometimes I think the QB just tries to throw it as far as he can instead of being accurate.

I'm afraid to say it, but I think Cherokee would run us off the field right now if we played them again.

Don't be fooled, Murphy is stacked. Murphy has at least 6 stud running backs, and they use them all. The QB is very accurate and if I'm correct has not threw a interception all season. They have very good receivers and TE's. Oh, the best thing about Murphy !! Defense

0 INT unless he threw one last night.

Hendersonville and Franklin would beat any team Mount Airy has played with ease.

No, Murphy's schedule wasn't great this year, but still tougher than the Bears.

I wish swain and Cherokee could play one more time. They hit a huge road block with injuries at 3 games in and that hurt them for a stretch and now healthy Cherokee is just preforming better and better each game. We sat out multiple players last night to rest them for the playoffs. Only will lose one senior that plays and that's the center

Was just responding to the comment about MA weak schedule. Walkertown last year's western runnerup. Starmount although down this year state runner up in 2014, West Stokes state, champion in I think 2012. Surry Central conference Champs this year. Franklin tough not sure about Hendersonville. Western conferences are all top heavy.

Wrong. All Bear fans want that rematch and could be as early as sec round. For some reason MA def just would not change there strategy . Things will be different next time.

Last Friday's game was nothing more then a physical display by the Cardinals. The Cards found the bears Kryptonite last Friday, hard nose smash mouth football behind a big offensive line. MA will definitely make some noise in the playoffs and I wish them the best of luck, of course unless they meet up with my Cards again, which is a strong possibility. Good luck to the Bears and stay healthy...
They must have lost that supply of Kryptonite last night

Well I don't think either team's schedule was anything to write home about but I think you should be sure about Hendersonville now after they hung 45 in the first half on the best team you've played.

Hendersonville & Surry Central are 2A & Mount Airy had an ADM of 513 almost little 1A this year and still beat Surry Central in September 42-7 . MA is much better than in Sept.
Hendersonville ADM is 795 & Surry Central ADM is 786.

How many SMC teams had anything to write home about this year.

My original response was to the comment that MA played a weak schedule. Schedule is not much different than Murphys. Both are still playing in 3rd round. Good luck to both teams next week

SC had a tough draw...Hendo could throw it & it gave SC problems...great year for Golden Eagles....would love to see that Murphy/MIC game....if Dogs control the ball and eat clock, it will be tough on MIC...but I can see this one being a shoot-out also

Just glad to see the Bears back healthy for the 3rd round , everybody knows the program Murphy has no matter the schedule played , same with the Bears , mbdfan if you are from our area you would understand the Surry Central storyline , pretty dawg gone awesome seeing them go 11-2 , they just don't get the athletes year in or year out that other schools get , just great to see those kids , coaches and community get to enjoy a little bit of success, next few weeks are gonna be fun , good luck to all that made it to the 3rd round

Seems I heard or read that this was their 1st playoff game sense 2005. Is that correct or do I have the year wrong ?

Any change in your thoughts about Mt.Airy being a fraud ? Sometimes it is better to lose a game near the end of the season to let a team know they can be beat if they don't play to win every game and be prepared for the playoffs. better then than later in the playoffs. It woke them up . Just MO.... Was the 2nd string in when ES scored their 6 points near the end of the game ?

This Mount Airy team is very good. Probably the best since the 2008 state champion team. They had some injuries and are back at full force. They have a great experienced coaching staff. They have a "little bit" of extra motivation this season.
