OM has been one of the worst defenses in football the last 3 years. They’ve lost several key defensive players. They will be horrid on defense again. Their schedule is set up perfect for 8 wins but I’m not sure Corrall can pull that off with nobody on the other side of the ball. Corrall is the difference in 4 wins and potentially 8. If they have any injuries on defense it could end up being the worst OM defense the last decade and that’s a pretty remarkable possibility.

Haynes leaving certainly didn’t impact that. We may still give up 50+ but we damn sure would’ve with him on the field. As you all know, all transfers aren’t equal. He sucked, to be candid.

No doubt our defense has been horrid. So the players leaving on the defense that was horrid isn’t that big a deal, right? If they suck, they suck. Hopefully the new recruits will be an improvement, but they won’t be worse. We signed 9 DB’s last year, so obviously the staff saw a massive talent issue…

That's not at all how it works. You're not going to bring in new guys to be instantly better than your second leading tackler. Ole Miss may improve defensively as the year progresses, but they are going to be worse than last year.

It’s absolutely how it works when your defense is 129th out of 130. That means you inherited a ton of non-SEC caliber players on defense. The numbers clearly bare that out across multiple years. So rolling over non-SEC players because their experience isn’t going to make you better. You recruit and insert players you think are more talented, because at the end of the day, you better have defenders that can run with other SEC players. Experience or not.

Now, maybe the mis-evaluated some guys. That’s certainly possible, especially given COVID limitations. But they didn’t sign 9 DB’s because they thought guys like Jon Haynes were good players. Do you really think he left after the NCAA deadline to transfer freely just because he didn’t want to be here? Wouldn’t he have already been gone? Odds are he left because as the new guys come in and get reps, work out, etc. he realized not only was he not going to start, he likely wasn’t going to play at all.

Again, we may very well be bad defensively. It’s a safe bet we will be. But it won’t be because of Jon Haynes leaving. To be honest, him leaving actually gives me a little hope for improvement. Because an SEC defense that plays Jon Haynes significant snaps is going to SUCCCCCCKKKKKKK.

Pretty sure their MLB transferred because of the portal guy from Maryland coming in and taking his spot. The secondary guys are all freshmen that would be taking spots (to my knowledge) so you may be correct there. I’m not familiar enough with their team to know.

We’ve been hearing “they will be better on defense because they can’t be any worse on defense” since before Trump was elected president. Which incidentally was the last time OM actually had a winning season in football. So forgive me if I need to actually see it before taking the OM fan base media talking points as gospel.

OM may not be the worst defense in the P5 again, but they will be closer to that than an average defense.
