Stellantis takes massive $26B hit after moving away from EVs

EVs have a place. The technology is amazing. However their biggest technological shortfall is the still unreliable battery charging/distance/performance/durability issues. That and the lack of reserve power sources on our electrical grid will keep them as nothing more than a novelty for only the most serious enthusiasts for at least the next decade and perhaps beyond that.

Once the battery charging/distance/performance/durability issues are solved, they'll take off, provided those issues are solved economically and without government "mandates" away from traditional ICE vehicles. Automotive consumers by large majorities still prefer ICE vehicles despite all the advances made for EVs in the past decade.

Fact.

I have no issue with EVs at all. Like you, I agree they have their place. The problem is government, mainly the left, trying to force-feed them to Americans.

The private market will say when. It's not the government's job to say when.

Exactly! We here at Ford would love to sell more EVs. In fact we invested a Hell of a lot of money in them mainly because Government was threatening to ban ICE vehicles! (Biden and his phony "new Green deal" mandates)

That cost my company BILLIONS in losses we've had to write off, because despite Government subsidies and mandates for EVs, the demand simply isn't there! So I agree 200% with this post @30CAT "it's NOT the government's job to say when" or even if we prefer EVs. Let the private market make that choice!
