Last night he punted the ball with no pop, power or hang time. It really looks like he could care less about his job. He couldn't punt the ball more than 41 yards and averaged 37.7. And these numbers are not low due to a short field.

He was terrible against BYU, too....

He killed us in that game. BYU had a lot of short fields.

Not caring about your job must be now trickling down from the top... Thanks, Dan Yankee!

He had surgery on his knee during the bye week. He didn't practice the weeks before against LSU and UMass, just kicked on gameday and in quite a bit of pain. He has punted poorly, but it's not for lack of caring, actually the polar opposite.

This again goes back to Mullen as his lack of attention to special teams. Cooke is our only punter on the roster and Graves is our only kicker. Cooke has to punt in pain or we'll see Graves out there trying to punt it.

Logan Cooke did all of the K O duties last night as well. He had like 5 touchbacks and 1 maybe 2 returned. We need him kicking off because the goal is kickoff a lot and punt a little!

Well I wish him a speedy recovery.

I had not noticed this, but according to the roster on hailstate.com, you are correct. Holy crap that seems like a dangerous tightrope to walk. I was curious what some "normal" numbers might be. So I present a randomly selected solid sample size of four.

Auburn has one K, two K/P, one K/WR and two punters. In other words, four guys who could kick and four who could punt.
Missouri has SIX guys listed as kickers, and one punter.
NC State has four kickers and two punters.
Baylor has two kickers and two punter/kickers, so four kickers.

We have enough people heaping on Mullen for enough other things without this being another one, but it does seem like a risky approach to be one play away from not having anyone on the sidelines who could dependably kick or punt. And yes, I know that Graves and Cook have not exactly been shining examples of dependability this year, but at least they've answered the call.

We have 2 punters and 4 kickers the extra players are not all listed on the official roster at Hailstate or listed as an athlete like Scifers

We have used another kicker this season. Wall I think? Did kickoffs in the Auburn game.

Our cardiac ultrasonographer's son was offered a walk-on spot at State to punt. The kid shows up to camp and Mullen said he didn't need him after he enrolled at State. The lady and her husband were furious. He is now on scholarship at a directional Louisiana school. This is the son-of-a-***** that is running our program into the ground.

That really sucks for the kid and his family. Unfortunately that is the harsh reality of college football.

if he was anything other than a walk-on sure. That's the price. This kids family had no connections or family loyalty to State though before the offer. Then to have all that snatched out from under him when he was good enough to get a scholly at a smaller school?

If he was anything other than a walk-on he would be on schlorship, so he wouldn't have been cut at camp. Not sure what you are meaning? Walk on's are exactly who this happens to. But all that being said I will have to ask around but I haven't heard of anybody being told to not show up that we didn't need them, especially invited walk on's. Do you know the kids name?

Walk-on's almost always have to try out to make the team....

Thus, I question the notion of him being offered an actual roster spot before camp. He was a walk-on. This outcome is not unusual. The reactions of those close to the young man are understandable. He's their son/friend/whatever. If it was my kid I'd react the same. But to an impartial eye, while Dan has given us plenty of reasons this year to bust on him, this does not appear to be one of them.

Anyway, it all seems to have worked out pretty good for the kid. He now has a spot on a roster with a scholarship so DM might have actually done him a favor. He might have never seen the field as a walk on at state. Now he will probably get to play and get his education paid for.

Whatever happened to the left-footed transfer kicker from Michigan?

I remember he arrived for fall camp and left before school started. Not sure where he went.

J J McGrath. He tried out all Fall camp in 2014 but didn't make the cut. At Grand Valley State now I believe.

Can we get the punter's name?
