Les Miles

Food for thought: What does everyone think about Les Miles? Would you be in favor of or oppose Les Miles if he joined the staff in some capacity?

Not advocating against Riley (give him a couple more years, etc etc), but personally, I would love for Les Miles to be HC despite his occasional boneheadedness. I think defensively it would be a good fit, and I would assume he would bring a more physical style offensively.

I was wondering what Nebraska will do after Mike Riley retires and/or is let go. Stay the course on this West Coast thing, or get back to physical, less finesse type of offense. I mean there's no rule saying you CAN'T go back to what you were best known for and did extremely well (power football), with some added and up-to-date wrinkles.

You do realize that Miles is only five months younger than Riley?

I still think when Nebraska is done paying Pelini and Riley is either fired or retires, that Nebraska will open up the checkbook and pay top dollar for the hottest coach available. Whoever that may be at the time.

I heard he is in the Twin Cities today on an interview.

Hiring former head coaches can be good or bad, but Nick Saban has done it and had success.

Will Muschamp became Auburn's DC. Ed Orgeron became a DL coach again (familiar name and 'good' recruiter). Dan Enos chose to leave a head coach position in order to be a coordinator.

Assistant coaches aspire to be coordinators. Coordinators aspire to be head coaches. That's the food chain in college football. That's the way it's always been.

Not all ex head coaches are going to be fine being an assistant again, but sometimes the situation comes up where one will say yes.

Some coaches are GREAT coordinators, but when they move up to head coach, they suck. In these types of situations, the coach should go back to being a coordinator in order to continue having a successful career.

No question about it, just like Turner Gill was going to be the anointed one after Osborne left some day.
