Leach in the SEC: Another Look Back

The WSU flashback thread reminded me of this one from last year. Not sure if it was ever shared on SPS or not, but I can't find it in a search. I encourage you to watch the whole video. Klatt is kind of a dbag, but he works for a network that covers the Pac 12, Big 12, and Big 10. It's his job to pump those leagues. With that said, I have watched him and Gus a lot over the years and he does a really good job as a game analyst. Does his homework.

His take sums up my opinion on how Leach and the air raid will work out... Now let the **** slinging begin.

but we are 17'ed if we can not run the ball in must do, and red zone situations, in the SEC.

3 things stuck out to me.

• The lack of a timing mechanism for the QB. The risk of QB injury is scary to think about if what he said has some truth to it.
• The Lincoln Riley story really drives home the idea of how much repetition there really is in Leach's offense.
• I didn't realize in all those years, Leach has never won a division and playing in a conference championship game.

I would be happy with a few 9 or 10 win seasons. Maybe break into the top ten or 15. Bama always wins the division anyway. And the running game is improving, slowly but surely. We have a few running touchdowns. And honestly if all else fails at least we will finally have a good passing game established if we change coaches. I figure its easier to add some running for balance than add passing. Esp for us.

Even with his badass system, Leach has never won anything of note. I hope he breaks through with us.
In his defense, only Saban, Coach O, and Jimbo have actually won anything in our entire league. Kirby, Lane, Mullen haven't.

Sure some have done some stuff as assistants, but like that 17n matters.

Once we get a couple guys like AJ Brown, Pitt, AJ Green, and all the BAMA boys, we will see a vast difference in our attack.

We’re going to be perpetually having this same conversation as long as Leach is the coach, aren’t we?

Even if/when Leach gets us to the point of winning 8-9 games per year like Klatt said, we will still have fans bitching about it. That would be success to me, and it would theoretically match where Mullen had us. But the reality is some (not all) of our anti-Leach fans have never liked the idea of hiring him and nothing he ever does will be considered a success, because the goalposts will keep moving.

No one is going to ***** about 8-9 win seasons. But the fact that Klatts main point about why it will succeed is that we practice the routes a lot is really bothersome.

From a purely football scheme standpoint, It makes no sense for this to succeed in 2021 in the sec. How many OCs would take a job if you told them you cannot: run the read/option, run tempo, use an rpo, use the fly sweep, use misdirection, use a tight end or stress the run game?

We ain't lookin for an OC so the point is moot. And all that repetition is necessary for route precision and knowing exactly where the receiver is going to be every play. Which will allow the QB to know where to put the ball before he even gets there. Sometimes I think when Leach says Tulu or Walley need to improve their consistency I feel like he means run the route correctly. The routes are designed to cause coverage mistakes. It just won't work if its half assed. Pretty sure if its not ran properly you will find yourself on the bench regardless of how good an athlete you are or how many stars ( see walk ons playing ). And of course if we get to winning 8 a year we will want 10...etc etc.
