I'm not saying anything new here, and downvote away, but the Leach experiment is 100% worth a shot at Mississippi State. I get that coaches can make immediate impacts and turn programs around, but Leach is a repetition guy who hasn't gotten going until year 3-4 in his last two jobs. We're 5 games into a weird *** season with no 17ing spring and no non-conference games against teams like New Mexico State. And before someone says, "New Mexico State would beat this team" -- no, that's not true.

This could be a disaster. Mike Leach hasn't coached in the SEC in a couple decades, and the game has changed, and his offense may never work. BUT doing what we've always wasn't working. We haven't beaten Bama since Croom. Spending 3-4 years with a proven head coach with a different offense that hasn't really been tried by anyone else in the SEC is worth a shot when you're a perpetual underdog in terms of resources, talent, etc. Yes, we look 17ing awful right now on offense, but I'm willing to spend a few years seeing what happens and if it doesn't work out, let's hire a new guy and run it down people's throats for the rest of my life. Football with Mullen was a lot of fun, and if that's the best we can do, I'm fine with that, but doing something different is worth a shot and with a guy like Leach that's going to take some time. And that doesn't make me any less frustrated with what's on the field right now.

This post is brought to you by High West, Angel's Envy, and the case of wine I picked up today.

Leach isn't gonna last 3-4 more games at this rate. We're currently compiling evidence he has dementia so we can't get out of the contract.

Thanks for trying to go way out of the box Cohen. It’s working really well for us your last two hires. The great tinkerer strikes again

When you hire a clown you get a clown show. This isn't unexpected.

Our offense is probably the worst team in the country. I know it takes time to put in a system and get your players but why does it have to be a complete tear down the first year? Couldn't there have been a gradual transition? He's losing support fast from more than a few.

Definitely worth a shot, all things considered. Cohen doesn’t know what he is doing so how good of a hire could we expect? He hasn’t made a good one so far. What Mullen did was good but not great. He averaged a losing conference record and never won a big game over a team that wasn’t falling apart. If Leach is still failing in two years Cohen needs to be replaced first. Then we may have a better AD a find a new coach.

UM fan -- don't know squat about schemes--do know there are no secrets in D1 football. See where Leach's scheme dictated only a dozen or so rushes in the last game (NC State) for a handful of yards--while all other SEC teams are using balanced attacks.
Question: if Leach's offensive scheme is a better system (than a balanced attack) why hasn't any other team in the SEC, or any top 25 team, employed his scheme?

You must have had to work hard to dig this one up from the archives. What is your agenda?

Hey dog, apparently you are still living in 2020. Not sure if you heard yet, but State won a national championship in baseball while OM was at home.

I'll answer the question, at least if I can.

#1, Leach has the traits needed to be a successful head coach, not just an OC. So it's more than scheme. Plus, if 'play-calling' is a skill (and I'm not really sure it is), I guess he's skilled at it, or so they say.
#2, I see it very similarly to the triple option except it's just passing - it's just something you don't see every day. And that's something we have to do at MSU in regards to football - innovation, or weirdness. And I have to hope Leach has continued to learn things and add to the offense.

But I do agree that there are no secrets. And personally I prefer a weird running scheme (Willie Fritz, Gus Malzahn). But anyway, that's your answer.

And I posted that when I was drinking right after we lost 41-0 to Alabama last year, so people weren’t at their happiest. Must have really searched to dig this up but not even sure why it would’ve stood out

Preacher brings the pain!

Is it a sin to be petty? I don't care, I'm forgiven. Ole Miss sucks.
