Anybody watch the new season?

Everything about this season I just found fascinating in the bleakest and saddest possible way. That coach is not only a world class douch but a grade A moron.

But, I would absolutely watch a show about just the townfolks of Independence, KS. It's almost like watching a Christopher Guest movie. And the rapper kid needs his own show.

It was pretty much perfect when the coach was sitting in a hot tub talking about how he’d barely watched film but wasn’t worried because he’s a play calling savant before the first game and then got absolutely destroyed.
I'm not sure he could out coach some kid playing Madden. It seems his coaching begins and ends with finding once highly recruited players who were kicked out of their first school and that's about it.

I felt bad for the kid to be honest. It seems playing fb is his dad's dream, not his. He wanted to play baseball and for whatever reason was told at 16 he couldn't anymore. Now he is in the middle of nowhere KS clearly miserable. I felt bad for all those kids honestly.

He seemed to have the maturity of an entitled 12 year old. He has some mental health and maturity issues he needs to work on. His basic attitude toward everything was just abysmal. No effort from him but always seems to find fault in everyone around him. I hope he figures it out. But honestly, the coaching staff at ICC seemed to be made of people just as broken as the players. Buddy down at EMCC was a jerk but at least seemed to not be a total wreck as a human being. The guy at ICC also seems to have a very large drinking problem. Has a mixed drink in hand in almost every interview.

My favorite part was the first episode when their DL was talking about IWCC. “They have 3 OL from Iowa so they won’t be that good”. It was nice getting a brief look at Mekhi Sargent who ran all over Indy that first episode. He will add some good depth in Iowa’s backfield this year.

I too thought JB was an insane douche and can’t believe he is a football coach. I love how he said he got D1 calls to coach. I laughed so hard at that knowing he is full of ****. He was so unorganized too. All that talent and he was barely beating anyone. They were all seemingly really close games. I was rooting hard against them.

Watched previous seasons, only three into this season.

Pretty depressing overall. So many of these kids are handed a golden opportunity, and just waste it over and over. Thanks to football, they get into colleges they never would have gotten into otherwise. Then, thanks to study habits, grades, effort, weed, fights, ho's they get kicked out. Some bounce around multiple JUCO's before being featured on the show. The JUCO's don't seem to invest much in them, either. They eat pizza and chicken nuggets, ignore a weight room that looks like a cheap hotel exercise room, and have coaches who only scream f-bombs at them all day. It makes you wonder if any of the JUCO transfers playing at Power-5 schools can even read, or ever attend class. I think I know the answer, but prefer to keep my head in the sand.

Also miss Brittany Wagner from the previous two seasons at EMCC. She could have given me a pencil any time.

Agreed, no D1 program is going to want a coach who says coaching doesn’t matter. I don’t even understand how he could believe that himself.

So the consensus is this guy can’t coach, and the only reason they won is because they have a bunch of D1 rejects, then blast him because he says coaching doesn’t matter.

He basically proved coaching doesn’t matter in how he turned that program around.

Coaching doesn't matter that much when you can get the studs on your team. You should see what a great coach I am when I have awesome players...you should see what a ****** coach I am when I have bad players.

A lot of people have bought into the BS that coaches feed us...about how they are in the office 100 hours a week and how they are breaking down film 26 hours a day...Shoot, I would be at my office a lot too if it meant not having to be home with my annoying kids. These guys work with their friends, why not be at the office? They have meals catered in all the time, they dick around on the computers and get a workout in, they have nice couches to nap on.

Amazingly guys like Switzer and The Ole Ball coach were somehow able to go out for drinks all week, golf all the time, party, take vacations and so on...and kick ***. Once you have the basics in...the players do the rest. I have been on staffs where we had better players by such a wide margin that some weeks we would not even prep for the team. We have gone scouting before and watched the first series of offense and defense and looked at each other and said "Yeah, lets grab a drink...these guys are terrible"

I teach and coach...there are not many professions that have people that *****/brag about how much they "work" than us...I hate most of us for that reason! Ha

Made me very skeptical of any Juco players we get for sure. Taking these kids to Arrowhead provides a disservice because at least from that batch of kids they sure as hell arent going to the NFL . It also shows how the educational system has failed young black men. Self worth all wrapped up in being an athlete or rapper. These guys need to be shown that they are more than that and it needs to start at a much younger age

Obviously knows how to relate to the kids and recruit, but there were a couple instances where it was obvious he almost lost the game for his team. I’ve read where they had a lot of other D1 guys not even mentioned on the show.

One thing to remember...this show is not scripted...but every kid knows they are on the show and all the coaches know they are on the show...If you are normally an ******* at a level 7...the second that camera is on you are probably going to amp up to a 9.

If you like helping kids (like that English teacher) and the camera is on...you are going to amp up the help/love.

One of Indepence's former assistants posted this on Reddit:
"Ok so, made a throw away for this one. I have no proof for you so take what I say as you see fit. I have the privilege of coaching college football, last year I worked at the JUCO Malik Henry played at (Independence). I left right before the summer for another much better job so I will not be on Last Chance U Season 3. Malik arrived on campus in January of '17. His dad was a helicopter parent and for good reason, he knew his son and what he would do. To say Malik was a douche and overall cancer to the team is an understatement. From his FIRST night he was involved in a fighting incident and bunch of other altercations. It should be noted that the campus is literally filled with security cameras, you cant scratch your *** without a camera seeing it. Malik was always always in trouble. Never at curfew check, not even once. Always was in some sort of fight. And then of course on top of that, the reason he got kicked out of FSU, cocaine. He was super skinny, had all sorts of joint problems (dont know if they are related) but he couldnt participate in our workout program. He did his own special program on the side while we did ours. I dont know how he was getting the drugs but he was and it was a huge problem. Like I said I left towards the summer, have no idea how he was during the season. But the TLDR: He is a **** person and teammate who does lots of drugs."

Its reality TV, it is very much scripted. They put the stuff on there that will get the audience to keep watching.

I just posted it cause I found it interesting and thought people might care to read it. When people add to the discussion as opposed to bashing other posters this place is a lot more fun.
Oh yeah, I knew what you meant. I wasn't trying to bash you! Sorry!

I rewatched Tombstone last night. All this thread needs is an “I’m your huckleberry” and a “youre a daisy if you do.”

Yikes, I feel bad that this is the first time I've read this thread. I had a little clean up to do.

Back to the topic at hand, I haven't ever seen this show, but will have to watch as I just found out that the coach that recruited my son to a different school is coaching at Independence now.

Will Honas had a couple good plays in the episode vs Butler...split a double-team for an assisted sack on Malik Henry.
