I do not think we will be allowed to play Oregon - I do not think ant team will be allowed to play a team from its own conference (as per rules).

If I am correct, RU would play 1 of Texas A&M, Creighton or San Diego St.. All quality neutral site opponents, if not Top 5 like Houston.

I wonder why this change was made....I wonder how ticket sales are going. I would think the majority of the revenue comes from TV

Who goes to the Championship game if two teams are 2-0. For instance, say Rutgers beats Notre Dame and Alabama, while Houston beats Alabama and Notre Dame. In that case, both Rutgers and Houston are 2-0, so who goes to the championship game? I guess there is some sort of tiebreaker with the scores of the games within the Group.

There are tiebreakers. Look at the article on scarletknights.com.

From the article:

Following Wednesday's games, each group will be ranked first through fourth, and after head-to-head record, seeding will be determined by total point differential in group games (capped at 20 points per game), then total points scored and fewest points allowed. The top seeds from each division will face off in the championship game, with the rest of the standings filling out the third, fifth and seventh-place matchups.

This format change comes after the NCAA's Men's Basketball Oversight Committee granted a blanket waiver of certain NCAA MTE legislation for the 2024-25 season. Specifically, the committee granted a waiver for the legislation that provides that only one team per conference can play in the same MTE and that teams can only play in the same MTE once over a four-year period.

Notre Dame roster has a local flavor … transfers from Princeton, Seton Hall, Monmouth, Lehigh, Penn State, Penn.

International Media Investments (a private company) based out of UAE (not Saudi Arabi), is in a joint venture with RedBird Capital and formed RedBird IMI. This is diffent than the Saudi PIF which is a government back Public Investment Fund.

IMI is a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corporation (ADMIC), which is owned by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a member of the Abu Dhabi Emirate ruling family

There are allegations that he has tried to help Russians bypass sanctions. You can never tell what is and isn't true these days, but.....

Maybe sneaker money wasn't so bad.

I guess this isn't what Geo expected when he fought for NIL for athletes.

All I was saying was that it isn't Saudi money and not part of the PIF.

Also, there are a ton of human rights abuse allegations against Nike and Adidas, and probably a ton of other clothing, shoe etc companies.

When it comes to big business you never know who you are getting in bed with.

Surprised there isn’t an NBA franchise overseas at this point. Many international players in the NBA, every team, in fact.

Really exciting to finally see us in a decent early season tournament. It always bothered me that Rutgers never seemed to be playing during the Thanksgiving week/weekend tourneys.

This is like the Wild West. Making major changes a month before.

Yeah don't like where there is going

Anyhow im bummed...Houston based on past history of the NET stanning The Cougars would offer oodles of NET SOS that the other possible opponents will not

While true, if RU were to play Creighton or San Diego St ... or Texas A&M,. there could be excellent NET at play. Creighton was 11th in the NET last year, San Diego St was 21st .... Texas A&M was 45th. Creighton and Texas A&M are ranked in the top 20 pre-season THIS year. So still opportunities for quality games - and maybe a better chance to win.

Would it be better if RU could get a win over a team ranked from #15 to #30, or a loss to a Top 5 Houston? I figure it would be much more likely RU gets a win vs a team other than Houston, and likely lose against Houston. But who knows if RU gets ANY wins, even over Notre Dame?
