The Landstown Eagles became the last participant in the VHSL AAA State playoffs after earning a bid to the Eastern Regional playoffs with a 7-4 win over the Cox Falcons. It is the 2nd Regional playoff bid for the Eagles who entered the Beach District tournament as a #7 seed. They upset #2 seed Salem on the road before knocking off Cox.
Landstown scored all seven of their runs in the final two innings. Outfielder Xavier Cooper [pictured] was the hitting star driving in three runs while going 2 of 3 from the plate including a 2-run double in the 7th inning. Dylan Myers also had two hits and a RBI.
Senior Alex Blankenship threw 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts to keep Landstown in the game with several great defensive plays and timely strike outs. Brandon Kussmaul relieved Blankenship and pitched out of a jam to get the win.
Beach district Player of the Year, Cole Jarvis, pitched 6 1/3 innings while striking out five and allowing three earned runs. Jarvis was hurt by the Falcon defense which made several costly errors. Senior Larry McCabe, who missed most of the year with an injury had two hits and two RBI for Cox.
