That’s probably true but I’m also not going to let one game decide. If we rewind to last year after one game we had a QB in the Heisman conversation and were in the Top 15. I’ll wait til this weekend and see how they respond or not respond.

I have to keep reminding myself that last year should have taught me to not judge a team on the 1st game. I've said all summer talk to me after the NC State game, and I still think that's true.

And remember last year when A&M opened the season beating Vandy 17-12? We need to get better. Let’s see how the season plays out.

They may not be, but they went 5-5 (4-2) in 2020 and finished up the year with a 52-10 loss to TCU and a 38-3 loss to Georgia Southern. Louisville went 4-7 (3-7). I'd need a good reason to think La Tech is going to be better than Louisville this year.

I am expecting La Tech to be a middling G5 team and for Louisville to be a bad P5 team, but still equivalent of a pretty good G5 school. That's not a particularly educated guess since I have no clue what either is returning from last year or what pieces they have added (in addition to last year just being a weird year regardless), but that's my assumption until proven otherwise.

Remember when we opened last year with a huge victory of LSU in Baton Rouge.

And then we sucked.

La Tech added at least 13 players from the Transfer Portal, including the guys who started Saturday at QB and RB and 3 defensive backs who transferred from SEC schools. They probably have more talent this year than last year. Our guys made mistakes on so many plays in that game, I don't see how anybody can think they know anything about La Tech at this point. They did a good job of taking advantage of our miscues--penalties, turnovers, blown assignments--and of our two quarters of playing timid, no-heart football after we had gifted them 2 tds to tie the game. La Tech certainly thinks they are better this year than last. They think they will win 8 or 9 games this year.
