Thankfully TJ didn't take the advice in 12 or we mighy not have had that title. You send 5-6 even 8 players a year to the NBA you have to hit a 100% of your recruiting targets every year. We aleays seem to come up just one short. We will have an exciting regular season. Always do,,,,,

LOL. Yeah, Kentucky and 345 other D-1 teams. You are aware that Kentucky has gone further, overall, i the NCAA tournament than any of the other 345 D-1 teams since Cal arrived, I assume.

Who knew? It's hard to win the tournament. I guess that's why in the 50 years I've followed the Cats, it has only happened four times.

We weren't a player short last year. Lost on a buzzer beater to the eventual champion. Unless that one player short was Luke Maye?

Actually, the only year I would say we were a player short was 2016. We were shorter than that in 2013. Every other year, we had enough pieces to win it.

There are some spoiled-*** fans on RR. How many teams have the talent UK has every year, with no weaknesses at any position? About none. Deep tourney runs almost every year, sorry there are no guaranteed titles.

We had enough to win it all last season.A bad ref and poor decisions when we got the lead late doomed us.

Wait, are you bashing calipari for not being 100% on his recruiting? Wow...you can criticize Cal on anything you want, but not recruiting.

I'd rather be one player away every year than building for 2-3 years and praying my best players come back to finish the job (Donovan Mitchell).

When you are 1-2 players away every year, some of those years you'll get those players back (Lamb, Jones, Harrisons, Dakari, Willie, Poy, etc.)

We still have enough talent every year to compete for a title. 2011 and 2014 had no experience, but our talent kept us in games and good tourney runs in those years got us 1-2 plays away from a title.

I feel like next year we have enough talent to compete for the title in a down year. And guess what, I think we'll have a few come back after next year to compliment our supposed "super-class" next Spring...and it could be scary.

I want titles every year, but in order to win you need to be talented enough to be in the conversation. Cal has us there every year and Im going to enjoy the ride. Losing on a last second shot to the national champs in a single elimination tournament does not make me less confident.

Most championship teams can say they are "one player short." No team is perfect. UNC won the championship despite being short a SG.

But you did make a good point. The downside of relying on a 100% hit rate with every recruit and good injury luck manifested itself in 2013. We had a couple players not perform as expected and Noel's injury was the stake through the heart.

Cal has learned from that. We've had much fatter rosters since that season. This upcoming season, for example, features a stable of bigs. Washington, Richards, Vanderbilt, Knox, Gabriel, and even Wynyard offer plenty of dice rolls. To have a solid frontcourt, only 3 out of the 6 need to have good rolls.

Would you rather have the recruiting and talent we get now or what we were getting from 1998-2009?

I disagree. How can you say we were missing a player in 2012 or in 2015? In this day and time, it's tough to have a perfect team, although we are the team that gets closer to that than anyone, with Duke a close second..

If Diallo returns I more than like our chances because he adds a whole other dynamic to this already talented team. Without him I think we can be good but not overly great...with we could just overwhelm teams with athleticism...imagine teams trying to guard Diallo and Knox BOTH!

Yes - I would love to have had Bamba because he's going to be a special player.

But I'm kind of excited that guys like SKJ, Tai, and Richards are going to get their chance to shine instead of being buried on the bench.

Boo hoo.

Almost every school in America will want UK's roster next year. So we won't feature a roster with overwhelming rim protection? UK will have to win it another way. I'm more tired of the assertion some of our fans make that UK needs 3 or 4 top 20 picks to win the effing title.

Guaranteed OP had this ready to go the night of Derby and then Knox ruined his plans. Bamba has given him the fire for this ridiculous post.

We're loaded albeit a team of mostly freshmen.

Just an FYI as if it mattered in anyway. Love Cal, been a fan since U Mass days. Pissed that Barney did the BCG thing and not Cal to begin with. Titles are what matters to UK fans. I get it about last year and the other years. Again I'm not so sure we would have won in 12 if not for Jones. Truth is he was highly encouraged to leave after the first year. I just think some of our guys need that second year. Hell we have a kid that is about to be None and Done. Love Cal, love the basketball, but titles are where the action is. Oh sidebar, been going to and watching UK games since the 50s so Im thinking I have seen a few more UK games than most here.

I've been a uk fan all my life, a very long time, and i will tell anyone who complains about cal, not enough titles etc., that we are truly living in the 21st century golden era of Kentucky basketball.
You better enjoy it. we may never see another run like this after cal leaves.

We dont even know how this team will play yet. For all you know, they could play like they are 4 players short.... or play with a chip on their shoulder just like the 2012 and 2015 teams did.

To throw in the towel already is silly.

Next years team is missing another big and another guard as it stands now. Hopefully Diallo can solve one of those problems.

Always come up one short? You have a team full of all Americans. I'm sure UK will make a deep run as they always do and have a chance to win it all. I don't think any of you can really bash Bamba for going to Texas like I've seen some of you do. Saying he must not want to win since he didn't pick a blue blood. He has a good relationship with Shaka and wanted to go play for him it's that simple. Texas will have a lot of talent next year, they may not win it all but they'll win the Big 12 and most likely make a deep run in the tournament too with a chance to win it all. Cal is an awesome recruiter but not even he can land them all. Plus he's a one and done no matter where he went.

It always seems that way. In 2009 we were a Jodie Meeks or Xavier Henry away from a championship. In the James young year we were a healthy WCS away from a title. The following year we were a healthy poythress away from a title. The nit year we were a healthy Noel away from making the tourney. The year before last we missed on Zimmerman and Swanigan. And this most recent team neede Allen or Bolden. I think the op is on to something here.

A UK fan like you are the one's I have the most respect for; you are rational enough to actually understand the awesome run UK has been on since getting Cal. Congrats to you you Sir for living in reality and understanding how good you currently have it. When Cal leaves things will change. I'm not saying there will be a drastic fall off but it will probably go back to having good teams with a real chance at the championship every four years or so. Right now you have a shot almost every year, be thankful.
