I was checking out the UCONN Boneyard message board. A lot of the poster consider losing to Tulsa twice as the beginning of the apocalypse.

Their posts reminded me a lot of the way we felt after getting blasted by Tulane in football.:sunglasses:

If I was a UCONN fan I’d be pissed off too. They’re one of the best basketball programs in the past 20 years. Ollie has them free falling off a cliff. It is ridiculous that they blame the conference instead of a very poor coaching hire though.

UConn fans should be pissed at the ease which they allowed TU to get to the basket. Practically zero opposition at the rim all night. Calhoun's teams would have never permitted that type of penetration.

That’s putting it too nicely. They’re uppity. Uconn fans are a whole new brand of arrogant douche.

They would have made you pay for those drives to the basket. Very physical guard play on the outside and a big enforcer in the middle waiting.

I brought this up in another post...but, for some reason, their fans randomly bash TU far more than the other conference newcomers.

You can find derogatory comments about TU in several posts weekly that have nothing to do with upcoming games against us.

I get that they’re in a different conference now...however, I’m not sure how TU has become the consistent reference of a conference embarrassment. The math just doesn’t add up...

Having studied in the East, I often encountered a mid-Southern bias. A roommate made me prove I was from OK since I didn't have an accent and I intimidated him.
UConn fans need a goat to blame and the other conference teams in our area, SMU, Tulane, Memphis - are in large metropolitan areas they know. TU simply fits their stereotype since it is in Oklahoma.
And, by the way, OU football fans are even more arrogant that UConn basketball fans IMHO.

Some are not ignoring the poor coaching hire. A couple of weeks ago I was over there reading a thread regarding the NCAA investigation into their basketball program and one of the posters commented that as the penalty, the NCAA will probably make them offer Ollie a lifetime contract. You gotta laugh at that one.

Could we do a fund raiser to help UCONN keep Ollie?
Despite the fans self important, over sized, egotistical cutdowns of TU that allows them to avoid the true cause,(olliephant in the room) I want them to achieve former glory. Just like I want the same for Memphis, and to a certain extent Temple.

The only program I want to hold down permanently is SMU.
I want them to stay in the cellar, you know, like they have been since Shake went down for the count.

It's weird reading how other AAC fans hold them in such high regard and expect them to be "back" to being a powerhouse in basketball next year.

I know it’s so strange. F SMU. They’re not going to get any better under jankovich. Also sick of him and espn commentators thinking their sanctions were unfair. Boo Hoo.

Hey, I kind of agree with them. Tulsa is a scrappy basketball program that can make things happen. At times we turn it on and play hard. But we are streaky, prone to bad games, do not have top level talent and simply lack a true center. Reality says hello, and Tulsa is not a top level basketball team this year.

If you lose to us both times you play us, including at home, then you are probably not a top level team either. That's hard for UCONN fans to accept. And maybe they shouldn't accept it and demand better.

Other than Memphis, Tulsa is the lowest RPI team they have lost to. Memphis is still riding on the brand name Calipari built and Uconn still has a chance to split that series. So we stick out to their fans. Now, next year when we sweep them it will be little easier to accept. And it will get easier each year thereafter.

(actually, I want a strong UCONN in our conference. I want a stronger Tulsa, but there's room for multiple bids below us:wink:)

I don’t think it’s specifically about this years TU team... what made me a little peeved was their perception of our athletic programs as a whole as well as our university.

Yeah you’re right that we aren’t world beaters this year, but our program’s accomplishments over the years are nothing to scoff at.

If they want to bash someone, bash Tulane, Ecu, or USF... they bring nothing to the table in the realm of basketball in regard to present or past success.

I get that, but they didn't lose to Tulane, ECU or USF. Let alone twice.

Still not the point... they aren’t bashing this year’s specific team (regardless of if it’s us, Tulane, ecu, or whoever), they’re bashing the fact that they’re in a conference with us because we as an athletic program and an institution are not up to their standards - which is asinine seeing that our universities are similarly ranked, we have a larger endowment, we having a winning record against them in hoops, and our football program has done way more than theirs.

If they want to be mad that they lost to this years tulsa team, then I can kind of get that... BUT thats not what they’re upset about. They’re blaming all their issues on the fact that they’re stuck in a conference with a “****** school” like Tulsa.

Sure. I get it. Throwing the entire program under the bus is shenanigans. But we stood out because they lost to us. Given recent history, their fans don't think that should happen. A few years ago they were in an absolute elite basketball conference with football credibility on par with the ACC. They got left behind and they are angry.

That anger goes to Tulsa because we beat them. Twice. I'm okay with that, as long as we keep beating them.

It’s not just fans, it’s the media covering the league, ESPN, pretty much everyone connected to college basketball. They have talent. Ollie, and I’ve been saying this for 3 years, is the problem. He’s just not a good coach in terms of game plan, adjustments, or game management.
