Kellam's senior night was threatened by bad weather and some tense moments but the Knights celebrated in dramatic fashion after Landyn Neumann hit a 3-run walkoff homerun to give the Knights a 7-4 over Salem. The win improves the Knights district record to 11-1 and they clinch the Beach District regular season championship.
Kellam trailed 4-3 entering the bottom of the fifth inning and with the rain starting to fall, they knew this would be their final at-bat to either tie or win the game. Salem pitcher Drew Cowan walked the first two batters but he threw out Josh Worthly at third base on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Sam Sinnen singled to tie the game at four while putting runners on 1st and 3rd with one out. Neumann, the Knights #9 batter, then sent a pitch over the left field fence for a 3-run homerun. That blast ended the game which was called due to rain and the threat of thunderstorms.
Salem put themselves in a position to win by scoring two runs in the top of the 5th to take a 4-3 lead. Ian Norris reached on an error and scored on a double by catcher Leremie Santos. The Sun Devils took the lead after a grounder by Alex Shauger scored Brandon Trujillo who singled earlier in the inning. Salem's other two runs came in the first inning. Brent Musante led off the game with a double and both Norris and Trujillo drew walks to load the bases. Drew Cowan grounder to the second baseman resulted in a double play but allowed Musante to score from third. Santos singled home Norris for a 2-0 lead.
The Knights scored three runs in the 2nd inning off starting pitcher Alex Shauger grouping three singles, a walk, and an error. Sam Sinnen single to right field and Neumann reached on an error to tie the score at two. Kyle Morrison drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center field for a 3-2 lead.
Kyle Walker picked up the win despite giving up the lead in the fifth. Turner Bishop earned a no-decision after striking out seven in four innings. Drew Cowan took the loss for Salem.
