Hoop Dreams Mag is reporting it..not a UCONN site.

Again, know nothing about them. Would they get a good scoop? Hmmm.

Wasn't he the head coach at GW when Coach P was there? Sounds like a great hire to me!!

Need a assistant coach that can coach the big men..The three hires so far are all former guards in college.I hope Marshall is still a option but doubt that is the case with Hobbs hired as associate head coach.

there was a time not too long ago when Karl Hobbs was the "hot young coach" and at one point in our coaching disasters was even mentioned on this board as a desirable HC

Bam! There's our shark! Karl Hobbs is a guy who has consistently recruited players of the caliber to play on top 25 teams. Pikiell worked under him at GW and now Hobbs is here at Rutger's. There is no better assistant hire in America that Rutgers could have made. He will fit into this staff seamlessly.

Stop with the bring in a coach who can coach big men talk. Pikiell and his staff just coached an All American at Stony Brook. Do you have any idea how hard it is to be an All American from a low mid major conference? The kid was a true back to the basket center who got exponentially better each and every year. You don't need a frigging coach who is a "big specialist."

Carino threw some shade on Twitter saying that the program under Hobbs at GW was built on academic risks and JUCOs to the best of his recollection

Carino is talking about an area he knows zilch about. Coaching GW is a tough job--Maryland and Georgetown are right there, and during my nearly 40 years in the DC-Md area, GW was always a poor third to those two programs. Plus other schools like to grab players from Md and DC. Most coaches at GW relied heavily on foreign players, who would vanish after a year or two. Some pretty good rentals from Russia, Ukraine, etc. Hobbs did OK there, and is a good hire. If nothing else, he might have some good international connections.

Just ok? He made 5 ncaa tourneys and coached Ray Allen and Pops Mensah-Bonsu (GW Hoops Legend) that played a few years in the NBA. You could argue Hobbs has a better resume than Pikiell. Grand slam hire.

Considering this is Pikiells program and won't be Hobbs'..that shouldn't be concerning.

As long as he's a good recruiter, good coach, has ties...sign me up.

Seriously. We have very strict guidelines regarding JUCO's, anyway, so I'm not sure why Carino would need to throw this stuff out there right now.

Glenn Miller was the Associate HC at UCONN so this is a bump up for Karl Hobbs to Associate Head Coach.

This may impact the Kevin Freeman speculation. Freeman may now move from DOBO to full time assistant coach at UCONN.

About Karl Hobbs......While Hobbs was at UConn, he was instrumental in the recruitment of such Husky stars as Richard Hamilton, Caron Butler, and Emeka Okafor.

This sounds like an absolutely excellent hire. Has a ring, been to the dance as an HC three times. Awesome.

I have been a season ticket holder for more than 25 years and I really can't remember a time when I was more excited about the future of our program. It's amazing that I can say that after the season we just lived through. I am absolutely delighted with both the Head Coach and Associate Head Coach hires!! I'm not sure how this is going to read, but the whole transition in the Men's Basketball program has seemed very un-Rutgerslike. I'm on cloud nine right now.
