Yeah its scary to think Nebraska is going to face even better QBs the rest of the season like Joel Stave or CJ Beathard or Mitch Bend over Bo Leidner....

Kaaya can only hope he will approach their collective talent some day.

Kaaya 28/42 359 yards. Bo is a pass defense wizard.

Kaaya 25/42 379 yards. Our secondary scheme is terrible and a big step down from last year.

A good QB with speedy receivers, running backs who can catch and quality TE's, when given time to throw the ball, will pick ANY secondary to shreds, no exceptions. There are just too many options. We got very little pressure on Kaaya last year and he shredded us. Same this year. The difference between last year's game and this year has nothing to do with our secondary or our defense. Hell, they scored 31 on us on Lincoln last year. They are a good offense. They are hard to stop. The difference between this year and last year is the one factor that has cost us both games this year we have lost: WE DO NOT HAVE A CONSISTENT RUNNING GAME ON OFFENSE. Last year we would not have had Armstrong rolling out to pass on third and one from the Miami 48. Last year we did not come up short on several third and shorts as we did against BYU. We are missing Ameer big time. So in my mind the coaches need to find a consistent running back and stick with him. From what I saw in the BYU game Wilbon is our best back in terms of shake and bake. But I hear he is not so good in pass blocking.

Nobody is arguing that our defense has played well this year. But what we are seeing is that the loss of Randy Gregory and Ameer has hurt us because there was no comparable talent on the roster to replace them. Thus, we lack a running game and a pass rush. And until we alter that scenario more struggles lie ahead against good teams. We are not fixated on Bo, but if fans want to complain about the new coaches when we are only three games into our first season then it is important to bring up the past in order to put things in perspective. Bo's defense last year was horrible in big games even with Gregory. And since he left the cupboard pretty bare the new coaches have little with which to work.

Might also want to throw in that Kaaya was a Freshman who had a whole 3 starts prior to when he light up Bo's vaunted defense, and who's previous high passing total came against the mighty Arkansas St. The kid has a whole year under him now, and knows what he is doing.

Lets be honest... This year defense will not be anything special. But neither was last years (or the year before that, and the year before that or the year before that), oh, and we're starting a Tight End at defensive end, and have freshmen in the 2 deep at linebacker thanks largely to Bo's outstanding recruiting efforts.

The road gets easier once we hit B1G play. There is no reason why we can't win the west still, and coming into the year, that was my only on the field goal with this staff. The 4 non-conference games are literally preseason to me this year. Give this defense time, and some ingredients, and it will be fine.

All these statistical comparisons are enlightening to an extent and roster comparisons serve a purpose. Are they a tell all??? NO. But I know one comparison that I am extremely grateful for at this point (which could have happened in either loss)....no blowouts!

well then if you are comparing the Miami game last year - Pass defense the same - we were much better in rush defense last year and they had their own star RB - Duke Johnson go into the NFL - they rushed for 3.3 yds last year and 4.0/rush this year - Most people last year were very conconerned about our defense after that game - this year we were even worse yet we continue to use a failed coach who was fired for non-performance as the gauge on whether this staff is any better - so far they are not BTW

The bench marks that are relevant are that we are at or near the bottom of defensive rankings this year. And in penalties. Last years coaches are not here. Some of last years players are gone.

What is a little concerning is the fact that they did give up the yards they did to BYU with Hill and a back up who hasn't played in two years and S. Bama. I know they will not face teams coming up that focus so much on the pass, but where this could be a real problem is trying to get off the field on 3rd down.
Right now NU is 2nd to last in pass yards allowed a game, funny thing is Mich St. is currently ranked 111. If by they end of the year they can get in to the 60-70 they should be ok.

Michigan State gave up 365 passing yards to Western Michigan.

In 3 weeks banker has managed to set a record even Bo or cosgrove was unable to obtain, 3 strait 300+ yard passing games by the opposition.

The only reason banker is here is that he's Riley's buddy, he would be a high school coach somewhere otherwise.

We play most of our games in the B1G West from here on out. Its highly doubtful this will be the case. Most of the QB's we'll be playing in Big 10 play will struggle to complete 50-55% of their passes. Stave and Cook are the only 2 I'm concerned about at all.
