Good luck to the young man. I guess he couldn't see himself as contributing next year?

Our roster seems to be an unbalanced mess. The portal could be our go-to for a year or two to get things fixed.

Wasn’t gonna be a superstar, but big loss considering what we’ve got left. Probably will get hammered for this take, but I never thought Nash would be more than a depth guy. Strong as an ox, but not enough explosion. And Black seemed like a big reach at the time. The fact that those are the only two NT on the roster is concerning. Hopefully we can pull one or two from the portal.

Another option would be to go after 4-3 DTs in the portal and go traditional. Played a lot of over and under sets last year with a NT still on the field.

Could look something like

SDE: Rogers
DT: Transfer/Nash
DT: Robinson
WDE: Nelson/Tannor

Riley didn't play at UNC, then got kicked off. But he announced he was transferring before that all came out. We recruit him (of course). He doesn't play here either. Now in year six he finally seemingly figures into the rotation and he's transferring? Based on past history, I would bet Riley wasn't going to get asked back anyway.

year 5 coming up.. roster issues are the head coaches fault. No ifs ands or buts about it.
Nikki, that's just another item we can hang on the board as a Frost negative.

I just think Frost gets some stupid *** ideas he tries to force them to work, then he keeps coming up empty.

At least now, we have a legitimate offensive staff to try to mesh things together.

I'm sorry, but I just can't have any confidence in Scott as the Head Coach.
The misery that sonofagun has caused me in the last 4 years has lingered.
I was hoping Frost could get this program rolling, but man, what a joke.

I do have a ton of confidence in Mickey as a recruiter. I think over the period of time he is at NU the talent will become a real factor. Especially if NU can keep them.

Add in a half dozen quality performers each year through the portal, start identifying some kids in high school and jucos that can really play, and I just think NU, with or without Frost, (preferably without) is going to be really good in 2 or 3 years.

The DL took a small hit today with Riley booking, but somehow these coaches are gonna have to figure out how to shore up that DL. Its time for Robinson to start to show something, and I hope Nash can do an adequate job.

Every time I seen Kolavarek? blitz he just ran up the back of one of our DLmen.

I thought looking at Clement on film, he just seems like a blitzing machine, and I hope he knows enough of the playbook to make a contribution. If we can't get pressure off the edge, then NU needs to manufacture it somewhere.
It would be nice to see some of the young kids like Pola, Wright and those types step up and surprise us.

I agree about Nash. Even his high school film against small schools, he wasn't impressive and he should have been dominant. Yes, Daniels huge loss.

Some people, like yourself, just want to be miserable.
Put me in the same boat with Nikki, cause I totally agree with him on that topic.

BTW, I'm a happy guy. By choice, my wife and I retired in our 50's, and remain in good health.

The only thing that has sucked in my life is the last 2 decades of NU football.

Yeah, I'm a miserable man.

I understand where you are coming from. I agree with you on Scott. The good news is Trev is in charge and hasn't been on the job that long and already positive things are happening. In some ways, I'm saying Scott is already irrelevant. We'll see how long he is able to stick around I guess.

Time to bring in Ed O
As much as I hate to say it, the more coaches replaced on this team the better, save Fisher and maybe Chinander.

I've never been impressed with either Dawson or Tuiota, and actually, never been impressed with Ruud either.

I think Frost tried to coach a team with Assistant Coaches who weren't supposed to yell at the kids, and that's a losing proposition.

Yelling to be yelling is counterproductive, but these are young men that have been yelled at before college.

For all we know, a kid like Yant might need to have his *** yelled at to get better rather than just benching him and letting him pout. In a lot of cases, some kids just can't handle it and check out.

It's the coaches job to find out who can and who can't handle being treated like an adult. When Frost was talking about all these kids that "love each other", etc, I knew that was a bunch of ****.

Is it unbalanced? I haven’t really looked, but that hasn’t been an issue the last couple years. I assume if it is, that means more roster turnover is coming.

We're going to have to "process" some guys. I'm wondering if he wasn't one of the next ones to go after our linebacker who is walking on at KSU.

Rumors saying that he got the boot.

Still doesn't know the defense and has been slacking off in the weight room.

Hutmacher is listed as playing in 11 games. Stille (6 years), Daniels and Thomas (5 years), in addition to Rogers and Robinson (3 years) played the majority of snaps last year. Nash has elite wrestling skills and is a big, strong kid. I’m not going to pre-emptively write him off.

Given the timing of the deal and the fact that the only playing time Riley ever got was at a JC, I surmise that Riley played football because he was big but he's all kinds of lazy. That's my guess. With these extra year guys, the school is under no obligation to keep them. So yeah, I would bet that Riley was late, lazy or both and they informed him that he wouldn't be back on scholarship next season. So naturally, the kid is going to quit and put his name out there in the portal.

Roster attrition is going to happen, and should happen! . My guess many are being asked to leave. Riley may be one of them .

Riley's departure puts NU at 89/85, so at least 4 more guys are going to either portal or quit playing football. Hixson and Bando are 6th year. Can Stepp transfer to an FCS and avoid sitting for a year? One of the corners is likely to hit silk after spring ball.

Stepp was a big disappointment. But he didn't do much at USC, so I guess we shouldn't have expected much from him.

Can’t fault the kid.

Still waiting on some guys who seem like the typical candidates to move on:
Cerni
Wildeman
Lynn
Mauga
NPG
Maybe one CB
At least one other OL
One QB
One more RB

Just my guess as to what we look like by the end of spring ball.
