Only 9 ?..... well as long as he doesn't have a Cliff Robinson moment, but Cliff (RIP) proved them all wrong with an 18 year NBA career)
One of the 9 in the "green room" will be the last guy in the room picked (like Cliff), but it's not likely to be as long and as painful a wait. It's 100% that Cliff fell in the draft because of his marijuana use, which back in college was very open as it was throughout Cliff's life. As I have posted previously I knew Cliff personally, acted as his personal chauffeur while we were both students at UConn, and liked the guy a lot. Nobody would care as much about his then marijuana use now in 2023, because it is legal in CT now. But Cliff, although ahead of his time, was living in an era when teams got spooked by guys using drugs. Cliff was drafted a few years after the Celtics used a #2 pick to draft Len Bias, and we all know how that turned out. It scared the **** out of teams.
Cliff stated many times later in his life that he used marijuana to cope with the stress of being an athlete. I actually use it now for sleep.

It's very wise of them to do that as recruits will see them on TV with their guy that they groomed into a 1st round pick. I should note that in the painful 1989 NBA Draft when Cliff Robinson was the last one in the "Green Room", he was all alone with a bunch of empty chairs and an embarrassed look on his face. No Calhoun, no family. Just Cliff all alone waiting to hear his name called and the cameras constantly on him showing his pain. Of course Cliff really wasn't Calhoun's guy, as he was recruited by Dom Perno. Calhoun may have been off camera but don't recall seeing him there.
Swin Cash was part of the brain trust that selected Hawkins. What's most interesting about the Pelicans is whether they will trade and move on from Zion Williamson, who is talented but extremely injury prone and, reportedly, has serious issues with his conditioning and professionalism. I had thought, when Swin was hired away from CBS Sports Network by the Pelicans and Griffith, that part of her job stated duties would be to work with the players on such things. There have been a steady stream of negative news reports on Williamson out of NO ever since he was drafted and the latest thing that's out there now is a threat to release a sex tape by his former porn star girlfriend who has completely trashed him. One wonders when enough will be enough with this guy.
Williamson's professionalism was also questioned by ex-teammate JJ Redick who co-hosted the draft last night, although JJ was much more charitable in his comments on Zion last night.
Guys like Williamson have eaten themselves out of the NBA in the past. Anyone remember "Dinner Bell Mel" Turpin?
