we should absolutely retain Mike Riley. He further says Riley has a great system in place and what we need more than anything is stability. He says Frost will probably stay where he is because it is hard to recruit to Nebraska.
Finally, he says the fans are just emotional and don't know anything.
Interesting **** from the Jet

I would say riley has to win every game but penn state. I think thats fair and firm.
I do agree with rodgers, that unless we replace riley with a coach who can use the current players wisely, more damage would be done.

I see him like every other week around omaha for some random reason. He is usually chatting up some 20-something girl. if MR had the slightest ability to make good gameday decisions, i might even agree with ole johnny hubcaps, but only after a few drinks.

Well, a lot of fans here thought the former, successful Buffalo U and current, struggling coach of Jerry Falwell U would do great things for Kansas after we “mistakenly” passed him over. How’d that work out? And most of the others thought Bo Pelini was a defensive genius, which seemed true only until Callahan’s recruits, especially Suh, graduated. So maybe Johnny knows about fans if not about who should be the coach.

I think the Jet is being sincere here and really means this. I just don't know if he is right.

Honestly, what has MR done from a gameday and gameplay perspective that would lead anyone to believe things will get better? From his first game it was clear that in game decisions were simply out of his wheelhouse. His teams rarely show up prepared to play. A trait he shares with Bo.

He is a nice guy, does good things off the field but it simply isn’t translating to success on the field. What more do you need to see? Better players with the same stupid in game decisions?

Well, not really. There are a ton of know it alls though.
The only thing we need to know is what we want to do on Saturdays in the Fall. And at the last home game at least 75k stated they didn’t want to stay at the game for the 2nd half. Weather to go to the game or not is all we need to know to really know! And NU can’t like the answer we gave them last time out.

How much $ from concessions do you think NU lost from people leaving the game that early? Does the school want that to be a trend? Maybe your like me and stay until the end or watch until the end. Sadly that’s not realistic for most fans and I don’t blame them. It’s difficult to watch your team when they play awful.

Last time we saw that, a coach was fired and fans were happy again

I’m in the camp that says Frost is the right guy (felt so when Riley was hired too.) But I defended Riley along the way.

The only thing I’ll throw out is that fans are certainly emotional and shouldn’t be the ones who make these decisions. Let’s look around. Did Jimbo Fisher forget how to coach? Did Brian Kelly forget then remember how to coach again this year? Many ND fans would have canned him last year. Rich Rod would have been fired from Arizona before turning the corner this year.

I’m simply suggesting that these guys are not idiots and may actually be on the cusp of turning the corner.

That said I would still go for Frost because it’s a unique situation.

When all you Riley supporters want to visit your idol next year I suggest you visit Corvallis in July or August. May and June can be nice, but also a little cloudy/rainy. September and early October can be pretty nice as well. Alaska Airlines flies nonstop from OMA to PDX. Grab your rental car jump on I-205 to I-5 and head South. It is just an 1 1/2 hour drive from the airport to Corvallis. The Willamette Valley is famous for great wines and lots of good breweries too. Your hero will have a lot of time on his hands, I mean how many times can he count all his Husker money, so I am sure he can give you the grand tour. Good travels!

Sounds nicer than Youngstown, where you've been planted up Pelini's *** for the last 2+ years.

The thing about Johnny is he goes with the wind. Hasn't he said the exact same thing about Callahan, Bo and now Riley? The Jet is a great cheerleader but not much of an evaluator of talent.

Johnny Rodgers played for Nebraska in the early 70's. That is > 45 years ago. Perhaps Riley's system would have been great during that time (he didn't start coaching until 1977 but wasn't a HC until 1987) but it hasn't been working here at Nebraska.

Things have changed a lot since 1972. Back then in the Big 10 it was 3 yards and a cloud of dust under Woody Hayes. Riley's offensive system would have looked a lot better than that. Not so much now IMO.

Do you know what you are talking about? NNNNNNNOOOOOO I got to love the myopic die-hard Riley loyalist believe only Bo supporters could possibly detest an average coach being at the helm of Nebraska. Dubs, wise up. Your hero is in rounding third and team has already left the field. He's lost and so are you.

It won't look good in any era with 40 yards on the ground.

This post expresses my view exactly. I agree with every word. I too wanted Frost 3 years ago, but rallied around Riley and supported him as our coach until this season. I think fans matter, but should NOT be the deciding factor in whether or not you fire the coach. Coaches need time. And maybe Riley and staff could turn this around. However, two bad seasons out of three is not indicative of anything that brings hope. And the Frost thing is a unique situation/opportunity.
Good post

Im a little surprised at JR on this one. Hes been around more than long enough to know the typical recipe for winning at a high level.(strong running game. Fast aggressive and opportunistic defense.) Regardless of the scheme the team needs to play fast physical and fearless. Not seeing that now. I hope the culture ship gets righted soon.
