I was wondering if he was on his death bed with all of the tributes I was seeing on sports programming the past month. One news story said, "he died unexpectedly". He was 85 and had been obese for at least 50 of those years. I'm not sure what was unexpected about him dying. Loved him on TV. Sounded like a great guy. That era of players and coaches will never be duplicated IMO in football and baseball. Now most of them are all about themselves.Shocked, not surprised

I have lots of opinions on John Madden. The creation of the Madden video game was not a great development for the U.S. It further glamorized violence and dehumanized Black athletes, helping to establish plantation cosplay that has grown worse in the era of fantasy football.
