we’re a blue blood at home, wearing denim the anniversary of 1996 Sagarin rated top team of all time, 1996 players back at Rupp Arena….rival game against a poverty program in Tennessee.

And this ******* does nothing but talk about Tennessee the entire game.

He played at Arkansas, he’s a Calipari apologist, and his daughter goes to UT, and he and his mentor were fired at Kentucky as coaches.

Quit putting this ***** on our games. ESPN did a pathetic job tonight and it was wildly disrespectful.

Took another unnecessary shot at the fan base about leaving this team for dead as if he is the spokesperson for all of BBN. He gets off to wagging his finger in UK fans faces. Who in the hell says NASCAR cuts during basketball broadcasts? If you cut the wheel too hard in NASCAR, you'll end up in the wall, dumped on the apron, and cause a massive car pileup pulling that.

He was also a Kentucky assistant coach (which was failed to mention above).

He is just doing his job. If both fan bases hate you, you know you are doing it right.

Dykes has to try so hard to come up with his little cute sayings. If you're goo at what you do, you don't need window dressing. I didn't know he incorporated NASCAR cuts. That's really silly lol.

Most on this site thought Cats were done after Missouri game.
We must be honest about the players & Coaches we were highly critical of.
IS IT POPE or The PLAYERS. ?

No it wasn’t failed to mention it was in the OP. He and his mentor were fired here almost immediately and he’s an Arkansas guy who does not like Kentucky at all. He was ran out of here and thinks his mentor wasn’t treated right here and has said as much so you’re off.

And it doesn’t matter his job is not to slobber all over Tennessee because he loves Calipari and Arkansas hates Kentucky and his daughter goes to UT. This wasn’t the night for it, had this been Dukes 1992 reunion game I promise you it would have been wall to wall highlights and coverage of Duke not a team coming into Cameron like Virginia. And Dykes would have been all over Duke. Same if this was his favorite Arkansas program or his adopted program UT.

This wasn’t the night for it. wildly disrespectful and he’s getting lit up on X for it and rightly so. Go back and listen to it, it’s just absurd.

It really would do ESPN (and commentators like Jimmy Dykes) some good to just call the game more often. Let the action breathe. Not every possession needs a manufactured storyline or some dramatic framing to force a narrative. Negativity and controversy might sell clicks, but that is what the studio shows, and morning shout-fests are for that give blowhards like Stephen A. Smith a platform.

ESPN/Disney is a completely trash network and pretty much every announcer they have is as well. ESPN has “an agenda, they don’t give a rats *** about actually paying their employees to accurately and subjectively “call the game”. They constantly do what all the liberal media does, try and stir people up - and this thread is proof that it works. They come up with “storylines” and narratives to fit their agenda and I’ll guarantee you they prep and go over that 100x more during the days leading up to the game with the announcers that the actual teams and/or players.
If you haven’t figured out how to, do yourself a favor and learn how to synch up Tom and Jack on the radio - it’s glorious really. You’ll be lots less “angry” (similar to just about any national media) if you just don’t listen to it!
The only game all year I actually listened to the national broadcast instead of Tom and Jack was the St John’s game on CBS. I know a lot on here can’t stand Raftery, but I like him, and CBS’ game coverage is 1000X better than what ESPN calls a broadcast. CBS guys will actually talk about the game they’re covering and actually show some replays every now and again on 50/50 calls.

I do this sometimes and I’m just going to have to do it every time. I’m going to try and run a stream and sync it so not only do I not have to listen to it but espn doesn’t get my points for ratings.

I’m one person but that’s what I can do.

Exactly. This guy exhausts me with inane "master of the obvious" over analysis of every single play. He jumps on one team's bandwagon after they make a run, and then does the same thing when the script is flipped. I judge analysts by one standard....do they offer an insight that I haven't thought of. Jimmy Dykes never says anything profound.

….be allowed to do a Tennessee game. He’s become more annoying than any other announcer. He doesn’t even pretend to be unbiased. I’m not sure what his issue is, but he might as well have had. Tennessee cheerleading outfit on last night. Sound went off pretty quickly.

He used to be great, albeit goofy. I dont know what happened. Maybe he was more of a Calipari person. But he was essentially a Kentucky fan calling our games for a good decade. So nice to have that as opposed to Bilas and Jay Williams. But now he seems to actively root for our opponents.

My biggest question is why does everyone hate UK? We have no one that slobbers all over us. Just negativity by half the announcers we get. We have 4 officials that seem to screw us every chance they get. No official that issues us Duke or Kansas home calls.
When and how did everyone begin to hate UK??
My memory says when Emmett took over the NCAA. He Hated UK because Calipari stole 2 of his best recruits at Washington while he was AD. He was in office almost 15 years constantly hating on UK. Everyone followed. Now it’s just common place.

Dykes used to be very complimentary of Kentucky and even spoke fondly of his time here. I wonder what has caused him to change?

Jimmy is a fence rider, UT killing us in the first half and he is all orange but as UK started coming back he started playing the UK comeback card. He just tries to ride the wave of who is Hot at the time, he is just a guessing commentator. Can’t wait for Jimmy’s Jet 🤮

Nah I’ll take the other side of the argument.

I hear ya and all the critics but the entertainment value of JD is worth it.

All his sayings…

“You can be a leg shooter and play tired but not an arm shooter…”

or something to that effect was worth the price of admission.

The fact that if he sees one “high flat ball screen” he will talk about it the rest of the night…

Let him do the Superbowl and halftime show tonight!

Adolph Rupp is probably the biggest reason. He was an awesome coach and when his teams beat you , he reminded you that he was doing it while he was doing it. He wanted to blow other teams out , not just beat them. Also, he took a university from a rural somewhat poverty stricken Southern state and won big and beat these northern east coast teams. They couldn't stand it and have tried to get back at Kentucky ever since.

He’s just a color guy who’s created somewhat of a niche for himself. Vitale spent 40 years and made millions of dollars without ever saying anything particularly knowledgeable about the game of basketball. Networks seem to think that’s what people want to hear.

His daughter is actually a cheerleader for Tennessee. Seriously.
