Saw the news on Colts owner Jim Irsay. First off RIP. Only 65. He looked much older than 65. Did a bit of reading. Avid guitar collector. Sounds like he had quite the collection from some pretty iconic musicians.

absolutely insane collection to have gilmour's strat and cobain's d-18. can't even imagine what those will fetch if they go to auction.

Billionaire with zero self control and drug and alcohol addictions...what could go wrong?
His dad, Bob Irsay, made the family fortune, but is probably remembered more for what a jerk he was. Not too shocking that his kid would turn out to have the opposite personality, but unfortunately he also had a lifetime of substance abuse that wrecked his health.

back in the 80s while eating at an upscale carmel/indy restaurant, his father, robert, came walking in with a belicheck broad on his arm. first time i had seen him in person. it was also my introduction to old men's fascination with heart attack fodder.

Begs the question...would you rather live a fun filled life doing what you want...or live a longer life staying away from all the "bad stuff"

My guess is you never really know the answer until you are about to die.

Really? I remember him differently, a lot different. In fact wasn't there some talk he could lose his franchiae? Do I have him mistaken with somebody elae? We'll go with your opinion, not lookin to dance on the guys grave.
Might be thinking of his dad, Bob. Jim was fantastic, fought his demons, but was super charitable and gave everyone the time of day. I was listening to a podcast earlier, they said he paid for the college 82 children of parents that worked in a specific area. Not a soul knee about it. Donated like crazy, kicking the stigma. Go check out what Pat McAfee had to say about him.

How many owners are hand selected to introduce someone into the hall of fame? Edge, Harrison, and Freeney all asked him. He cut two of the three. That's how highly they thought of Jim.

When you are "doing the bad stuff", you probably don't think it will have such a huge negative impact on your life and in some cases, it might not.

We just think of the fun.

Who knows!

Abuses substances but is a great guy? Hmm. Ok.
Just because he had demons doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good guy. Some people need to get off there high horse. I have never heard that he killed or hurt anyone just maybe had an internal problem. Judge much?

Here’s the way I see it. By abusing drugs he robbed his family of time with him. I didn’t realize he was only in his mid 60’s. That’s not real old. But don’t assume just because he never hurt or killed someone that makes him innocent or a fabulous guy. He essentially killed himself.

Yes he killed himself . And no he is not innocent but by all things I read he was a respected well liked person.

Also a guy that did a ton for his community. That was a proven fact. He used his fortunes for the good of less fortunate. You no nothing about his family. But yes you judge someone without facts. That makes you judgmental. That’s how I see it

Btw my dad passed at 55 never touched a drug in his life. Good ole farm boy moved off the farm to the city wanting more for his family. Made a very comfortable living for my family. Not everyone is made to live until 90

You’re not seeing my point. You’re giving him credit for things he did. Great. But so effing what. Lotta people do nice things. But when you abuse your body like he did to the point of death, that don’t make you great. I don’t give a rats *** that he was revered. Dude did something that killed himself.

Yes I know… you are judgmental. I don’t give a rats ***. you are on a high horse with out knowing facts. He did great things unlike you judging someone with out knowing anything.

He had an addiction. I know people don’t like the comparison but he had an illness just like cancer. It sad but he couldn’t cure himself.

I don’t think I’m being judgmental at all in this. I’m saying I’m not calling anyone a great person when they abused something to their death. That’s not being great. The only stipulation I might have some remorse is if he was getting help, of which I don’t know.

If you don’t know than you should be silent. And yes he tried rehab. And you still don’t understand it’s an illness

As an alcoholic myself - there is a cure. It’s stopping. It takes amazing will power but anyone can do it if they make the choice. It’s a narrow path but I’m sure a gentlemen such as him could have done it.

Yes, everyone can. That is a **** attitude. Anyone can beat addiction but not everyone makes the choice to do so.

It’s not easy. But it can be done. I’m not here to cast judgement on this fella, not my job.

I’ve seen guys that can barely talk become great salesmen.

I’ve seen short, ugly dudes get hot chicks

I’ve seen extremely fat mother ******* become skinny.

I’ve even seen that damn kid who swings that bat slower than evolution hit the ball in machine pitch little league

The human spirit can do all and thinking Jim didn’t have a chance is purely wrong

Who said he as an innocent guy? Or was a bad family man. His daughters seemed to love him. He taught them to run the team the same way he was taught to run the team.

Now go look at all the good he did. Yes, he struggled with addiction, but he also told his story and started the kicking the stigma foundation and donated over a hundred million dollars to help others with mental health struggled. He was super generous with his time and money. One demon doesn't make him a bad person. If it does, we are all bad people because we all have demons.

it's not our job to gage whether this dude was good or not. Giving away money, while generous, doesn't make one good.

And I agree with all of your post btw

I mean, it was more than money. He made time for everyone as well. Always spoke to the media, visited people. A lot of people will go as far as to say he's the reason Indianapolis is a fantastic sports town.

Didn’t a couple of the Colt players going into the HOF ask him to present them for induction? Thats an honor that probably doesn’t do to someone who is not well liked and greatly respected.
