Jim Boeheim on North Carolina NCAA investigation: Rules 'certainly applied differently'
Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim said he didn't want to say much about the investigation at North Carolina during his media day news conference last Friday, but he raised questions about the application of the NCAA's head coach responsibility rule and failure to monitor rules.
North Carolina's issues were far more troubling than Syracuse's, yet the Tar Heels and head coach Roy Williams were unpunished, while the Orange and Boeheim were hit hard compared to NCAA precedent.
"I'm not going to comment on anything about that," Boeheim said when asked about the disproportionate penalties. "But, as you mentioned many times, in your writings, head coach responsibility. That didn't apply to North Carolina. Screamingly obvious. And I'm surprised that you, in particular, haven't been all over that. I'm supposed to know about a 10-page paper and they don't know about 18 years of As?"
"I know every year what my players get and what courses they get them in," Boeheim said. "I get a report every semester. What course. What grades."

A Cuse fan actually forwarded me the article. Boeheim really got jobbed on the MONITORING aspect compared to RoyKnew.Of course Jimmy didnt have his ex AD as sitting conference commissioner, and a Cuse alum is not ESPN President either....

Roy did respond. He doesn't think the situations are comparable because none of the Carolina coaches were directly involved. Plausible deniability is so freaking awesome for guilty parties. #GDTBATH #RoyKnew

The NCAA sanctions he and his program received were onerous and draconian. If he appeals , I’ll be glad to offer whatever support I can etc.” But no. In typical unx/Roy fashion , Williams doubles-down on the cheating he and his employer got away with. More holier-than-thou “carolina way” bullsheet. They’ve learned nothing from this...other than to be more careful next time. And there WILL be a next time. They didn’t help orchestrate a massive , decades-old scam just to up an’ stop because the spineless NCAA , media and rival fans critique ‘em for it.
