Do we think/know if Roach suffered the same injury as Kyrie Irving that kept him out for an extended period of time at Duke? If so, it is likely we won’t see Roach the rest of this season

No it’s not the same as KI but he should not have returned so soon. Would not expect him to play at Clemson and maybe he returns after the week off after Clemson.

This is all accurate. Scheyer said last night it would take something completely unexpected for him to play at Clemson.

It's some sort of strain/pull of the big toe on his right foot. He's going to have pain in it no matter how much rest he gets; the time off now is just to manage it and see if the rest can lower the pain associated with it.

We signed two combo guards in the next class. Is there reason for concern that we have not signed at least one pure point guard? We can only hope that Proctor continues to improve and meets expectations. Even if so, I think we will still be one PG short next year unless Roach goes for another. OFC

I think we would be very fortunate to get one of Proctor or Roach back. The word on DBR, which has several beat writers, is that Roach is moving on after this year. That said his junior year has been pretty underwhelming so far. Things can always change. Proctor will probably show enough to move on.

I just don't see him in the portal

I'd love to get Roach back. I think the coaching staff needs to sell him on being a role player. He does not need to be taking 10 plus shots a game. I don't think Roach will transfer, I think he will try his luck at the draft/G League. But having a down junior year may convince him to return. We have recruited as if Roach and Proctor are moving on. I would bet money we don't get both back.

"Pure" PG seems to be an anachronism given the way the game is now played.

I would be shocked if we don't get one of Proctor/Roach back unless we somehow make a decent run in the tournament and Roach comes back from injury with a chip on his shoulder. FWIW, if both of those things happen, I would be ok with them both leaving!

Roach might decide to move on after this season. There were rumblings about him wanting to leave after last season . No one knows but he won’t be in the league if he leaves because this draft is guard heavy .

It seems to me all season he has tried to do a little too much and I don't think he is good enough shooter or playmaker to go next level

He should be back by the Miami game. How effective he will be for that game and the rest of the season remains to be seen. We need an 85-90% Roach to have any shot at making a run this season. He'll never be 100% this year, but who is? Everyone has aliments. Proctor and Roach are both gone. I don't expect anyone but Blakes, Schutt, Reeves, and Young to return to this team. Even though none of them but Whitehead should leave.

Proctor at PG, Roach as a 2 guard could work. The staff should tell Roach to pick his spots and not settle for 3. Or else Roach off the bench. Blakes has made progress but he might be a year away. I'd really like to see Proctor/Lively come on strong.

If we continue to see marked improvement from those two, we're in for a much better year than some feel we're about to embark on. Roach is better off the ball, and Proctor, for better or worse, needs to run the point. Blakes is who he is. I thought that move to the basket late last night was fearless but shortsighted. He's learning; they all are.

I hope so but the recruiting services list him as a CG> OFC
Maybe I'm looking in different places, but the ones below all say PG.

This was Scheyer's quote on Foster after the class was signed - "A true point guard that really knows how to play, Caleb is a dual threat that can score in the paint, shoot and create for others." So hopefully he really is a PG

Looking at Roach's advanced stats (or just watching a couple games), he's actually been worse this year than last. Some guys make a jump. What we've seen on the court - a can't shoot SG and high TO / low assist PG - might be all we get from Jeremy. Would hate to see him as a reserve his senior year...

Shut it down and return for his senior year? Not sure either. Sounds like they may ask whether any long term damage can be done by playing on it. Sounds like it hasn't healed, but I'm guessing.

Or he could just be sitting down to see if it’s done any good while he’s sat out and healed or is it still going to be lingering .

I think that it hasn't fully healed, and the discussion will be whether he can play this season at all or needs to plan on a long-term recovery so more or less, my guess is the same.

This may not sound right, but I'd just as soon see what the freshmen plus Ryan Young and Grandison can do and if they can pull things together, bring Roach back in late February.

You have true PGs like Tyus and Tre. Those true PGs may not score a ton. If they do, they are forced out of necessity for the team.

You also gotta want to be a 'True PG'. It's not something glorified anyone. Remember, Chris Paul is an old man to this core of recruits and bball fans.

Avery's my favorite Duke PG. He was so smooth. Great 3 point shooter. I'm still mad him and Maggette left lol. And unlike Roach he knew what to do when he got in the lane.
