I still didn’t understand how him and Greene were (would’ve been eligible the second semester)

Is it because Cal and UK request they not have to sit out? It almost seems like something like that. That Cal doesn't want guys to have to sit out if they want to leave UK. I guess if your old coach and school are backing you to be eligible right away it goes a long way.

Cal and staff apparently were instrumental for both being eligible immediately. Not sure what they said but it worked.

it’s weird, but I’ve never heard of that unless it was a hardship type of transfer (which neither of these were)

so are other coaches dicks? Lol

of all people, I believe it was Jeff Goodman that initially made it known that the UK staff played a roll. And yeah, in so many words he said most coaches and universities are typically dicks about transfers.

What was the unique situation?

I really have no idea. I’ve never seen it stated publicly what exactly Cal and staff told the eligibility center that helped.

Goodman kind of made it sound like in most situations the university the kids are transferring from have a say in the matter and they just choose not to help.

it’s not surprising that our staff would help. Cal is not a petty person and seems to genuinely care about his players regardless of whether or not they choose to remain wildcats.

imagine the shoe being on the other foot and it was Roy or K. We’d be hearing non stop praise every game.

Yep, Phil Martelli would confirm this.

I can very well see this, but it would seem that if a player didn't want to be at a school any longer that the worst thing for everyone is try and force him to stay. Coaches do behave that way in regard to transfers.

Used to be that way with Dean Smith. Always heard a lot about him helping transfers but in reality, he ran guys off and set them up at another school. Prime example if John Brownlee, who was a decent player at Texas in the '80's. I worked with one of his friends and Brownless said that Smith called him into his office the day after the NCAAT and told him that he was too slow to play in the ACC and that there was already had a spot for him at UT.

Cal is too smart to be mad at a player as he truly knows the player is hurting themselves by leaving so why pile on top of his mistake by making it harder . Cal still provides leadership to kids long after they leave . Why do you think guys like Wiltjer speak so glowingly of him even after they are gone. This is one of the reason he recruits so well to.
